Franchi SPAS 12

The Franchi SPAS 12 is an Italian combat/tactical shotgun that was first produced in 1979. It is capable of firing in semi-auto but also is able to be switched to pump action in order to cycle lower pressure shells like bean bags, flechette etc. Production was halted in the year 2000 due to lower sales from banned importation to the US during the assault weapons ban of 1994-2004. SPAS stands for Special Purpose Automatic Shotgun. Later models attempted to increase sales in the US leading up to the assault weapons ban by changing the acronym to Sporting Purpose Automatic Shotgun to unfortunately little effect.

The safety on earlier models was a lever safety that would be flipped from Safe to Fire. Unfortunately there was a defect in this design that would eventually cause a part to wear out with too much use. When that part wore out, it would cause the weapon to fire when switched from safe to fire, if the weapon was loaded. Many SPAS 12's were recalled and fitted with crossbar safeties as well as all subsequent production models being produced with the safety update by default. This model still has the original Lever safety, but because it's a video game there's nothing to worry about.

The SPAS 12 was made iconic to media with its prominent on screen appearances in Terminator, Jurassic Park, Half Life, Call Of Duty, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and many more! This mod is a tribute to the legacy of this truly unique design.
