Photorealistic Resident Evil

This preset has been carefully designed with a thoughtful selection of effects and filters to minimize FPS drops. That’s why I’ve prepared the preset in two versions: 'Photorealistic (Cinema Effect ON)' and a lighter one. The 'Photorealistic' version includes additional effects such as Cinematic DOF, very light film grain, subtle chromatic aberration, and Letterbox.

Regarding the DOF effect: this is an effect that cannot be perfectly tailored for every game due to dynamic gameplay and the ever-changing movements. I’ve opted for a dynamic setup—meaning the calmer the scene, the better the DOF effect performs. Here’s what I mean: during a fast-paced chase, the character is usually near the center of the screen, so the DOF focuses on the surroundings rather than the character, ensuring the whole image remains sharp and doesn't hinder gameplay. On the other hand, when you're walking slowly or doing something similar, the effect beautifully focuses on the character, as they’re usually on the left side of the screen. This adds a cinematic depth of field, blurring distant objects more while only slightly blurring closer ones. As a result, even with the effect active, you get excellent balance in how it works.

REMEMBER that this effect operates outside the game engine, so it may occasionally miss something, etc. However, after extensive testing, I can say the effect works well overall. The preset without cinematic effects only reduces FPS by about 1-3 on average, while the version with cinematic effects has an average FPS drop of around 15-20, depending on your hardware. My setup is quite old, so I’m sharing my FPS drops as a reference.

To use the chosen version of the preset, place it along with the shaders in the game’s main folder. Here’s the path for the Steam version:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Resident Evil 2

Keep in mind that before doing this, you need to have RESHADE installed, preferably version 6. 3. 3, to avoid potential issues.
