MG5 通用机枪来自于HK 公司的HK121 机枪，德军制式采用后被命名为MG5 通用机枪，MG5 通用机枪采用导气式自动方式，枪机回转闭锁机构，开膛待击，只能连发射击。MG5 采用模块化设计，其拥有不同长度枪管，不同形式的枪托、护手、握把，不同容弹量弹链箱以及多种附件。通过以上不同组件、附件的组合，可以组合出通用型MG5、同轴机枪型MG5A1、步兵型MG5A2、特种部队型MG5S。这些组合基本涵盖需使用7. 62×51mm 口径通用机枪的所有场合。其机匣顶部设有导轨，可安装光学瞄准镜。

The MG5 general-purpose machine gun comes from the HK121 machine gun of HK company. After the German standard was adopted, it was named the MG5 general-purpose machine gun. The MG5 general-purpose machine gun adopts an air guided automatic mode, a bolt rotation locking mechanism, and can only be fired continuously when opened for firing. MG5 adopts a modular design, which has barrels of different lengths, different forms of buttstock, handguard, grip, ammunition chain boxes with different ammunition capacities, and various accessories. By combining the above different components and accessories, the universal MG5, coaxial machine gun MG5A1, infantry MG5A2, and special forces MG5S can be assembled. These combinations basically cover all situations that require the use of 7. 62 × 51mm caliber general-purpose machine guns. The top of its receiver is equipped with a guide rail, which can be used to install an optical sight.
