📋 About This Mod
Description:
"Online.bat" will create a temporary folder and move all non-original files
from the root into the temporary folder.
"Offline.bat" will move all files from the temporary folder back into the root,
and delete the temporary folder.
"Switch.bat" will look for the temporary folder and either run Online.bat or Offline.bat
Installation:
• Unpack the zip file and or drag and drop the "krammesting" folder to the game root.
• Take ownership of the root folder.
Or run as administrator, it's up to you.
Per request, I've decided to make a visual representation of how to use these batch files.
• Place krammesting inside the root folder like so:
• To allow admin rights inside the folder. Right-click inside the root folder then click on properties:
The window should look similar to mine just click on the tabs and buttons I've outlined :)
• Security tab
• authenticated users
• (allow) Full control
After running Online.bat it will create a folder named rdr2tempmodfolder where all the non-original files will be placed.
When you want to play story mode with mods again you simply run Offline.bat,
and all the files inside the rdr2tempmodfolder will be moved back into the root.
You can also use the batch file named Switch.
The logic for Switch.bat is that it will look for the folder named rdr2tempmodfolder.
Depending on if its there or not it will run Offline.bat if found. If not then Online.bat
Folders inside the root containing mods do not matter when playing online
Only the root should be clear of non-original files :)
I made this mainly for my own use.
I wanted a simple way to move my mods out of the game root to play online.
And a simple way to move them back when I play story mode.
Switch is a batch-file tool for Red Dead Redemption 2 that lets you toggle mods on and off by moving non-original files between the game root and a temporary folder. It includes Online.bat, Offline.bat, and Switch.bat for easy management. Requires manual setup and admin rights.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Simple concept that solves a real problem for RDR2 players who switch between online and story mods.
- Decent community trust with 604 endorsements and 22k downloads.
- Batch files are lightweight and don't require extra tools or dependencies.
⚠️ Cons
- Manual setup requires taking ownership of the game folder, which can be intimidating for less technical users.
- Only works if you follow the exact folder structure; misplacement breaks the script.
- Potential compatibility risk with mod managers or other tools that modify the root folder.
For RDR2 players who frequently switch between online play (no mods) and story mode with mods, and want a quick toggle without manually moving files. Also for those comfortable with batch files and folder permissions. Skip if you use a mod manager that handles this automatically or if you never play online.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to take ownership of the RDR2 root folder or run the batch files as administrator, otherwise they won't have permission to move files.
- Place the krammesting folder exactly in the game root, not inside any subfolder, or the scripts won't find the files.
- Test the toggle with a single mod first to ensure the batch files work before trusting them with your whole mod setup.
