📋 About This Mod

This mod was sorely needed by a few other mods for a long time. Mainly Realistic Combat Overhaul, which also made bleed outs on all vital organs a 100% chance. But for some arbitrary reason, Rockstar decided to heavily limit when and where bleed outs can occur. Mission NPCs, for example, use a completely separate damage model (Human_Mission) that isn't in the peddamageinfo.meta file and can't be modified. They're also blocked in ALL indoor areas, no matter the NPC or where they spawned.

Well fixing this turned out to be way simpler than any of us imagined. Because Rockstar already included a bypass: The Tracking Arrow!

Turns out the tracking arrow has a special flag (VerifyAllowed) for the bleed out damage modifier (CDamageModifierForceBleedout) to force bleed outs on Legendary animals. Because they're also immune to bleeds and critical hits when using regular ammo. Ever notice how you have to shoot legendary animals more than once, even with headshots? This is why, and Rockstar's own bypass for it is what we're exploiting.

    Changes in v1. 3:

  • []Made the fix from v1. 1 more reliable (I honestly don't think anyone noticed any issues, but better to be safe) while also lowering the number of conditions used from 4 to 2. It's nothing too crazy, but saving CPU cycles when possible is always good practice.

[]This will probably be the last update unless a game update breaks it or someone finds something seriously wrong.

        Changes in v1. 2:

    • []I uploaded the wrong file like an idiot last time. It still works fine, no worries there, but the mentioned fix wasn't actually included. Woops.

          Changes in v1. 1:

      • []Turned the bypass into its own modifier and inserted it into the official modifiers properly, rather than hijacking them. Which prevents weapons that shouldn't do fatal damage from causing bleed outs (eg. The Bolas and . 22 Tranquilizer rounds from RDO). This ensures intended gameplay isn't affected when used with mods that unlock online content.

      • The mod isn't just 6 line changes anymore :(

        Installation:

        1. Extract the archive into your /lml/ folder.

Replaces these mods: (If you have them installed, remove them. They're no longer needed.)

        All Shots Cause Bleed Outs

Realistic Combat Overhaul (The Lower Bullet Force options for this, which stop every NPC from falling over after being shot, do still work though.)

        Fully compatible with:

        Center Mass Bleed Out Mod

        Ped Damage Overhaul

        Red Dead Offline

        W. E. R. O (Euphoria Ragdoll Overhaul)

        WhyEm's BloodLust

        Conflicts:

Anatomical Damage - Uses custom damage modifiers, but removes the modifiers used by mission NPCs. So I would recommend against using it regardless.

Basically, any mod using the default_damage_modifiers.meta file will break this.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Just Bleed Already is a gameplay mod for Red Dead Redemption 2 that removes Rockstar's restrictions on when bleed outs can occur, allowing them in indoor areas and on mission NPCs. It exploits the Tracking Arrow's VerifyAllowed flag to force bleed outs, and includes fixes for weapon compatibility. With 1,738 endorsements and 75,214 downloads, it's a popular tool for realism mods like Realistic Combat Overhaul.

✨ Key Features

Enables bleed outs in all indoor areas and on mission NPCs, which are normally blocked by Rockstar's damage model.
Exploits the Tracking Arrow's VerifyAllowed flag to force bleed outs, bypassing the game's restrictions.
Version 1.3 reduces the number of conditions from 4 to 2 for better performance.
Version 1.1 turned the bypass into its own modifier, preventing non-lethal weapons like Bolas and .22 Tranquilizer rounds from causing bleed outs.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Essential for realism mods like Realistic Combat Overhaul, making bleed outs work as intended.
  • Performance-conscious update (v1.3) reduces CPU load by cutting conditions from 4 to 2.

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in January 2023, so it may break with future game updates, though the author notes it's likely final.
  • Exploits a game mechanic (Tracking Arrow flag) which could be patched by Rockstar in a future update.
  • Potential compatibility risk with other mods that alter peddamageinfo.meta or damage modifiers, though not explicitly stated.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Red Dead Redemption 2 players who use realism overhauls like Realistic Combat Overhaul and want bleed outs to work everywhere, including indoors and on mission NPCs. Also for modders who want a reliable fix for the game's arbitrary bleed out restrictions. Skip if you play vanilla and don't care about realistic damage mechanics.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure to install this mod before Realistic Combat Overhaul, as it's a dependency for that mod's bleed out changes.
  • If you're using a mod manager like Lenny's Mod Manager, place the file in the correct folder and enable it in your load order.
  • Since this mod modifies damage behavior, test it in a save where you can easily trigger a bleed out to confirm it's working.
