📋 About This Mod
If you just want to have your Dead Eye Rank at some level (eg. 5) and don't think about it for the rest of your playthrough (including replays), this lightweight mod is for you.
Once you set your preferred Dead Eye Rank in the ini file, this mod will maintain that rank for the rest of your playthrough (regardless of mandatory mission rank changes and replays).
It works also in chapter 1 (even before you are introduced to Dead Eye).
Overview of Dead Eye Ranks:
There are 5 Dead Eye Ranks, unlocked at specific points in the game:
-
[]Rank 1: During the Chapter 1: Mission "Old Friends". It allows Automatic tagging of enemies when highlighted.
[
]Rank 2: During the Chapter 2: Mission "Pouring Forth Oil IV". It allows manual tagging.[]Rank 3: During the Chapter 4: Mission "Banking, The Old American Art." It allows continuous fire if target is not tagged.
[]Rank 4: During the Chapter 5: Mission "Fleeting Joy". Fatal areas are highlighted.
[]Rank 5: During the Chapter 6: Mission "Goodbye, Dear Friend." Critical areas are highlighted.
This mod allows you to change Dead Eye Rank at any point (even in missions and replays). There are cheat codes for changing Dead Eye Rank, but those cannot be activated during missions, and by using cheat codes saving is disabled.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 837 endorsements and over 21k downloads.
- Lightweight and configurable via ini file—set it and forget it.
- No more fiddling with cheat codes that disable saves; this mod keeps saving active.
⚠️ Cons
- Requires manual ini editing to set your preferred rank, which might be a hurdle for some.
- Forcing a high rank early could trivialize the game's progression for new players.
- Since it's a script mod, there's a small risk of conflicts with other script-heavy mods, though 2.0 claims broad compatibility.
For RDR2 players who've played through the story multiple times and want to skip the Dead Eye rank grind. Also great for those who want to experiment with high-rank Dead Eye early or during missions. Skip if you enjoy the natural progression of unlocking Dead Eye abilities.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to edit DeadEyeMaster.ini with a text editor and set SetRank to your desired value (e.g., 5) before launching the game.
- If you're using other mods, install Dead Eye Master after them and check for any load order requirements.
- Test in a save before a mission to see how the rank holds; it should persist even after mission-triggered changes.
