📋 About This Mod
In the Year 2024, Qwardnaffle's Rifle Holster mod, although well executed at the time, is outdated. It's using the rifle strap ydr causing it to disappear when unholster the weapon, and still uses embed textures, making the game crash after roughly 15 minutes of gameplay or when loading/reloading a save.
This is why I decided to make a new rifle holster mod, starting with a vanilla inspired model based off the cut horse scabbard model. I had to make it bigger and thicker than the original scabbard so it would fit every rifle type (except the carcano).
Then I used the RDR 1 model and textures to make another rifle holster because someone asked me to.
In order to not require other mods, the Leather rifle holster replaces the Raven Claw talisman and the rdr1 rifle holster replaces the Raven Claw talisman.
I have made a different rifle holster for john, that isn't using old asf assets and will be made to fit with the other equipment garments.
Thank you KristiandD3 for making the .bat script to make weapons.ymt file use the rifle holster position.
Bakou's Rifle Holsters is a cosmetic mod for Red Dead Redemption 2 that replaces three talismans—Eagle Talon, Raven Claw, and Buffalo Horn—with rifle holsters, including a leather holster, an RDR 1-style holster, and an original design matching John's equipment. With 267 endorsements and nearly 20,000 downloads, it's a popular visual tweak for players wanting more authentic gear.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Solid community backing with 267 endorsements and nearly 20k downloads.
- Adds three distinct holster styles, giving you options to match your outfit.
- Fits John's gear, so it blends well with the story mode aesthetic.
⚠️ Cons
- Cosmetic only—no gameplay effects, so if you want stat changes, look elsewhere.
- Replaces talismans, so you lose their visual identity if you liked the originals.
- Potential compatibility issues with other mods that alter talisman models or textures.
For RDR2 players who want to swap out those flashy talismans for something more grounded and practical. If you're into role-playing a rugged gunslinger or just prefer a cleaner look, this is a nice touch. Skip it if you're after gameplay tweaks—this is purely visual.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to replace the talisman files in your game's lml folder or use a mod manager to avoid conflicts.
- Since it's cosmetic, you can easily test it by equipping the talisman in-game to see if the holster appears correctly.
- If you use other talisman mods, check load order to ensure this one takes priority.
