At Dillsboro, where the roundhouse tracks had long curved inward with a certain cramped practicality, a small amount of additional trackage was laid during the later years of operation. The work was not undertaken as part of any broader expansion, nor did it greatly alter the character of the yard. It existed simply because the railroad had found continued use for the space, and because the arrangement already there no longer suited the work as comfortably as it once had.
