Tuckasegee Steel Works

With the revival of the railroad, Bryson City has approved the construction of a new steel mill on the eastern side of town. Active coal mines in the region and reliable rail service returning to the Tuckasegee Valley, the location was ideal for a fully integrated steel works. The complex includes its own coke ovens, blast furnaces, open heart furnaces, rolling mills, raw material yards, power plant, maintenance facilities, engine service and a passenger station. Designed to produce around 1,800 tons of steel per day. Extensive trackwork allows for movements of coal, ore, limestone, finished steel products, molten-iron and slag—offering plenty of switching action for operators. 8 industry types and more the 16 car loads, 70 cars daily on tier 1, up to 300 cars at tier 5.

BEWARE: Running a steel mill is a challenge that should not be underestimated. All industry component depend on each other and need to be  balanced. NOTE: the optional interchange in the Transfer Yard is set to enabled by default. Cars will be delivered there if you leave it enabled. See more info about this below.

First of all a big thanks to:

  • []Tomer, for support, programming help, being there to help brainstorm and building the slag and molten-iron cars. You have been a great help! Thanks a lot! [/]

[]NKY Railfan on YouTube. His series on Making Steel in the US taught me so much and provided me with details on the industries. He was also so kind to lend me the soundscape. By all means, do checkout this series if you want to learn more on the real thing of making steel![/]

[]Zamu, Latom, C_L_B and others for helping with with various programming challenges and Unity.[/]

[]Ian, Stryker, Rex, the test team and many others.[/]

What is included in this mod:

    • [] A readme file with a full explanation and setup on what is needed and how to start up the industry. It is vital to read this!!  The readme can also be found in the "Katers. TuckasegeeSteelWorks" folder, in the Railroader mods folder. [/]

      []All assets / scenery models[/]

[]Some cars (additional cars mods are needed. See the list below)[/]

[]Interchange: adds an interchange in the transfer yard. This is for those who just want to manage the steel works and not the rest of the map. All cars will be delivered and picked up here. But you still need to purchase the captive cars for within the industry (steel, steel-shavings, molten-iron, molten-slag). [/]

PLEASE NOTE: the interchange is switched to ENABLED by default! If you don’t want map wide industry cars delivered there, disable it.

(Look up the transfer yard in the industry list)
