📋 About This Mod
Enables adjusting damage and derail thresholds; hardens rolling stock for higher track speeds and rough yard hostling. AE can safely run up to 130mph. Usage: CTRL+F10
It's a hard knock life. Sometimes you just need to kick cars like you mean business and run express trains hard until the rail bends. Now you can without the wear, tear, and penalties!
A somewhat-faithful reproduction and expansion on functionality originally provided by Tostilities
The default settings are intended to raise safe operating limits appreciably without destroying realism; Auto-Engineers should take advantage of long straights but slow accordingly in the curves. We're only changing Mainline track segments so Industrial/Siding/Yard speed limits should be respected.
This mod is currently not actively developed/supported. It may not be compatible with new mods, loaders, and versions of Railroader. Use at your own risk.
USER GUIDE
(v1. 0. 0)Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. This mod relaxes damage and derailment thresholds and permits higher track speeds so you can run a bit harder without as much penalty.
HOW TO OPEN THE MOD MENU
In-game, press Ctrl+F10 (default Unity Mod Manager hotkey) to open the mod list. Click "Hard Knock Rolling Stock" to see its options. All settings are saved automatically when you change them.
WHAT THE MOD DOES
COLLISIONS (coupler impacts)
The game normally applies damage and derailment when cars hit each other at certain closing speeds. This mod lets you add a margin (in mph) before damage or derailment kicks in, or turn off collision damage or derailment entirely.
CURVES (overspeed on curves)
Taking curves too fast causes condition damage and eventually derailment. The mod lets you add a margin (in mph) to the curve limit before damage or derailment applies, or disable curve damage or curve derailment entirely. Wheel squeal (is supposed to) uses the same relaxed limit so it matches how fast you can safely go.
AUTO ENGINEER (AE)
-
[]AE can be allowed to run up to 65 mph on Road/Waypoint (instead of 45).[/]
[]AE can use your curve margins so it takes curves faster while still staying safe (it respects your damage/derail thresholds and stays a buffer below them).[/]
-
[]You can set all Mainline track segments to a chosen speed (25-65 mph in 5 mph steps) with the "Apply mainline speed now" button.[/]
[]Reapply Mainline Track Speed after loading into a save, and again after unlocking new areas so new track gets the same limit.[/]
MESSAGING & CALLOUTS
Optional in-game console messages:
[]Selected loco: warn when you are within 2 mph of the unsafe speed threshold.[/]
[*]Milepost callouts: when a lead locomotive (not an MU slave) passes a milepost, print e.g. "HARD 1000 @ Milepost T 53 - 60 mph".
