📋 About This Mod
This mod aims to alleviate some of the issues with Project Wingman's English localization. It does so in a number of ways, such as matching the written lines to the spoken ones, switching some of the lore entries and UI wording for clarity
Project Englishman is an attempt to fix some of the more glaring issues with Project Wingman's localization. It started when I noticed some typos in the subtitles, and a few wonky turns of phrase throughout the game. It's hardly a major issue, as you're unlikely to be paying attention to commas and periods while you're out there in Cascadia, kicking ass and taking callsigns, but it bothered me mostly during briefings and debriefings.
To be sure, there's already an excellent mod that attempted to fix these issues, Project Localization. The issue is that Project Localization was made for the release version of Project Wingman, and there have been plenty of patches since then, as well as the DLC Frontline-59, which adds a lot of content that mod doesn't cover.
So, what has been changed?
While it started simply as a revision of the game's subtitles' punctuation, as I was working on the lines and going through the game files, I noticed some other issues that could also use some attention. In no particular order:
[]Not every line of subtitle matched the spoken lines. Some were small issues, just one word out of order, but in some cases there were full sentences that were omitted. These have been changed to match the spoken lines.[/]
[]There are several lines that can be heard throughout the game that aren't subtitled. They play more quietly in the background, and can be overridden by other lines. It makes sense on some of them, but I felt like, at least in some instances, the game was better served by spelling them out loud and clear. In addition, when these unsubtitled lines are placed one after the other, only the last one will be played. [/]
[]The lore entries are a bit messy. In some cases the wording is very confusing, suffering from grammar issues and runaway sentences, and in others it's clear they were never really finished and only received some form of placeholder text. For instance, the entry for The Sea of the Scar just repeats the entry for the Federation Mainland entry. Elsewhere, the entries for the individual airships of Task Force 1 consist of a single line with a name for the captain. These are problems that have been acknowledged by developers on Discord, but are yet to be patched. So I changed the wording where I thought it was needed, and have, for the moment, suppressed the entries for the individual airships of TF-1. [/]
[]Enemy fighter planes are inconsistently named. In some planes, but not all of them, the slash is replaced by a backslash for some reason. So the F/C-15 is displayed as F\C-15, the I/A-52 is displayed as I\A-52, and so on. It doesn't happen with every aircraft, which actually makes the debriefing screen look even odder for the discrepancy. [/]
[*]Naming conventions aren't always consistent. For instance, in the subtitle headers, Hitman 1's
