Ever since its discovery in 1991, there's been a tug-of-war within paleontology over whether the elongated neural spines supported a row of spikes in life, a pair of sails, or a single sail -- perhaps with a resonating apparatus. Current science is leaning to the sail argument, as these spines are highly vascularized -- not so if they were covered in horn."
