📋 About This Mod
Explore Orsterra in peace without being interrupted by random encounters - all scripted, quest and elite encounters still work.
No Random Encounters
Suppresses random encounters in the overworld and dungeons (pretty much anywhere) while preserving scripted battles - including story, side quest, and other event-driven fights.
Features
- []All random encounters throughout the game are suppressed.
-
[]Scripted encounters (main quest / side quest battles)
[]"Contend" / "Impress" encounters
[]Arena battles
[]Elite encounters (see "Usage" below)
The mod can also (starting from version 1. 1) be suppressed and re-enabled at will:
-
[]Pressing F6 stops the random encounter suppression altogether.
[]Pressing F6 again re-enables the mods function.
If you want to test whether the mod is currently running or not, just dash in the game - if you are in an area where random encounters would happen and the minimap turns red, random encounters are on the menu. If it does not, you're safe. 😉
Requirements
This mod requires UE4SS experimental release v3. 0. 1-632-gb734711.
Installation
-
[]Install the required UE4SS build linked above.
[]Extract this mod.
[]From within the "NoRandomEncounters" folder, you should be able to copy the entire "Octopath_Traveler0" folder into the install location of your game (e. g. "~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/").
As a sanity check, here's where the two important files should end up in your game install:
- <game folder>/Octopath_Traveler0/Binaries/Win64/ue4ss/Mods/NoRandomEncounters/enabled.txt
- <game folder>/Octopath_Traveler0/Binaries/Win64/ue4ss/Mods/NoRandomEncounters/scripts/main.lua
[]Start up and enjoy!
Usage
-
[]The necessary functions start firing automatically once you load into the game and survive reloads / in-game transitions.
[]No additional steps are required.
[]Exception: Elite enemies (visible as their battle sprite in the world) seem to depend on the same function as random encounters for battle to start.
[]Workaround: Pressing the F7 key causes the mod's function to be suppressed for 3 seconds.
Simply walk up to an elite and, shortly before you hit it, press F7 - the encounter will begin normally. After an elite encounter, the mod will continue to suppress random / elite encounters (unless you manage to kill the elite in less than 3 seconds, in which case: Damn).
Compatibility
This mod should be compatible with most mods that do not directly alter encounter handling or battle startup behavior.
Potential conflicts may occur with mods that:
-
[]Change random encounter logic
[]Modify the
BattleUtilityfamily of flags[]Hook battle-start functions
[]Alter elite enemy encounter behavior
I've finished an entire playthrough with all side content I found using this mod and found no issues with any encounters, quests, etc. - aside from the elite encounters, for which the F7 workaround worked for me every single time.
Notes
-
[]Turning off all random encounters, in all likelihood, will mess with the balance and might leave you underleveled.
[]To compensate, you might want to also look into other mods such as Half EXP Required for Leveling by ZArkadia.
[]Alternatively, you might use cheats, such as a trainer, to make up the difference.
- Hey, I'm not here to tell you how to play your single player game and you shouldn't let anybody else do so, either. 🙂
How it works
In a nutshell:
This mod continuously keeps the game's internal random encounter flag turned off during exploration, which prevents normal random battles from triggering.
The game appears to expose a global encounter toggle through:
BattleUtility:SetEncountFlag(true/false)
This mod works by continuously forcing that flag to false, which prevents random encounters from triggering.
Instead of disabling encounters only once, the mod reapplies the change every 100 ms. This is necessary be
