📋 About This Mod
This is a tutorial for those unfamiliar with making their own mods to update their favorite mods. I decided to make this because I'm just not personally a fan of video tutorials and prefer to have written instructions.
I was originally gonna upload a patched version of a mod I really liked, but I really didn't wanna upload someone else's work even with credit without their permission. So, here's my compromise!
This is a step-by-step tutorial with screenshots to show you exactly where to click. If images are too blurry in the PDF, I've also uploaded them to the "Images" folder.
I'm not a modder, I'm just simultaneously impatient when it comes to other people and willing to spend an entire weekend learning something new. I've never touched Blender or UE5 in my life.
EDIT: I created an additional file that is only necessary for skeletal meshes (weapons and bodies). These steps are not necessary for armor or other item meshes that do not have skeletons.
Here's some of the resources that I used:
-Alex Preit's 1. 2 update tutorial -
This one goes pretty fast/skips some steps. If you're confused (like me), refer to the tutorial below.
If you're actually familiar with modding, you can probably skip to 28:00 where the actual fix to the 1. 2 crashing issue is addressed.
- The basics by Last Ghost Gaming because I have never touched UE in my life -
This tutorial also has links to FModel, the mapping file, Blender (+ a UE5 plugin), and Epic Games to download UE5.
If you're reading this, I'm gonna assume that you're updating mod meshes to be compatible with 1. 2. If that's the case, you can skip baking the textures since they're (presumably) pre-baked.
Also, if you wanna use textures from one item to replace a different item, make sure the material is named the original name and in its original folder. For some reason I thought this was optional because the MIC file wasn't being exported lol.
- The fix to a super fun error I ran into -
- The latest invite to the MO2 Discord server -
As a general rule, don't use Vortex unless the mod specifically calls for it. If you must use a mod manager, MO2 is probably your best bet.
I'll answer any questions, but do keep in mind that I'm not a modder. The only time I've ever done anything like this was a quick patch between two Morrowind mods that caused a misplaced door in Balmora.
