📋 About This Mod
ACTUALLY improves performance for 8gb or less low end NVIDIA or AMD GPUs. This mod does not affect CPU performance and does not promise ANY improvement for higher end GPUs. Naturally, any real performance gain will cost something visually,
THANK YOU SmokerNaruto for the "No More VRAM Leaks Crashes" configuration. I have modified that .ini file to try and save the visuals for the game's art direction to stay relatively the same while keeping the performance improvement.
Additionally, thank you to sneezes for the information about restoring ambient occlusion while having Lumen disabled.
This mod does not aim to be a lossless performance improvement and does not seek to optimize UE5 stutters beyond GPU issues such as VRAM. Also fixes possible GPU related crashes.
This is achieved through disabling Lumen and falling back on UE5's Virtual Shadows set to the minimum configuration. If you are interested in the specifics, read up on it on SmokerNaruto's original mod.
INSTALLATION:
1. Find and open the following folder with your Engine.ini config:
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\Config\Windows
2. OPTIONAL: Locate and backup the existing Engine.ini file in case you want to restore the current one.
3. Either delete the existing Engine.ini file and move the mod's Engine.ini or overwrite it with the mod's one.
4. IMPORTANT: Depending on the amount of VRAM your GPU has, change the "r. Streaming. PoolSize" to your VRAM - 1024.
It should look something like this:
8gb (DEFAULT): r. Streaming. PoolSize=7168
6gb: r. Streaming. PoolSize=5120
4gb: r. Streaming. PoolSize=3072
4. Locate the newly placed Engine.ini and open properties, checking the "Read only" attribute under general.
5. Open up the game and open the video settings in the main menu.
Make sure Global Illumination Quality is set to Medium. This ensures the game looks as intended while performing decently.
The rest of the settings can be adjusted as seen fit, however "Shadow Quality" and "Effects Quality" can be set to low for optimal performance.
"Texture Quality" should be set to Ultra on 12gb VRAM, High on 8gb, Medium on 6gb, and Low on 4gb.
6. Adjust the Anti-Aliasing settings.
Upscaling seems to be broken below native resolution, having shimmery shadows and some artifacts. Your mileage may wary but I would suggest trying native resolution with TAA of FXAA first to see if the performance is adequate. If you can spare the performance, TSR (100% Resolution Scale) seems to have the best image quality or alternatively DLAA on an Nvidia GPU.
Done. Enjoy the game! (P. S. make sure all drivers are updated and ReBAR is off in the BIOS. This fixed a lot of issues for me.)
Here are the settings I used on my RX 6600 XT (RTX 3060 8GB equivalent) to achieve 60 FPS most of the time:
