Virtuos added 2 addtional children (7 total) to fill the blank space to the door relief art of the dark brotherhood entrance door by mistake even though the lore clearly says the Night Mother had 5 children. TES fans got upset about this blatant oversight and BGS and Virtuos together finally corrected it by removing the extra 2 children in Update 1. 2 patch.

Meanwhile, when I visited Bravil, I noticed there are only 3 children begging the Lady for mercy. "What happened to the other 2 children?"

One thing I want to clarify is that the Lucky Old Lady and the Night Mother are two different individuals.

The Lucky Old Lady was a local kid whose mother was a prostitute. She was bullied and lived an unhappy life. One day a priest of Stendarr had compassion and taught her how to be as benevolent as he was. She became a barmaid and later was handsomely rewarded with a great fortune by an Imperial prince because of her good deed to the prince who disguised himself as a beggar whom she treated with compassion and kindness, and became even more benevolent to everyone by sharing her fortune with locals in Bravil. Daughter of the Niben doesn't mention her having any children, let alone being married to anyone. In contrast, the Night Mother was a malevolent and unholy lady who infamously killed her 5 children to walk the path of Sithis.

But it doesn't matter. What really matters is dark brotherhood members consider the statue as the hidden symbol of the Night Mother for deception. If so, there must be 5 children. After the incantation during the quest Honor Thy Mother, the Night Mother appears as the statue and opens the portal to her crypt. If you watched the animation, the babies become crushed and disappear as the statue 'dances', depicting the children were literally killed by her appearance, reminding the brother and sisters in Dark Brotherhood of their Mother's past act of filicide each time they visit the unholy site. Plus, if you open up the game assets, the Lucky Old Lady's base model name is clearly, "NightMotherStatue.nif" in Oldblivion and "SK_Nightmotherstatue.uasset" in OBR, not "luckyoldladystatue.nif" So she is indeed the Night Mother in disguise.

(And this is my pure theory separate from the official lore: the architect who designed the statue and the structure underneath might have been a Dark Brotherhood member. No one knows that. But it is likely because if I were the architect, I would make the whole thing look so benevolent and charitable, and that way I can conceal it as far away from the public's suspicious and prying eyes as possible. Say, a book shelf is the best deception to act as a camouflaged rotating door that leads you to a secret room behind the wall.)
