📋 About This Mod
This a port of my Skyrim Mod, Engaging Combat - Keep Combat Dynamic at Higher Levels.
❌THE PROBLEM:
In Oblivion, players can become so powerful at high levels that the game turns boring.
- []When most enemies pose little to no threat, encounters lose their appeal, and without any challenge, the fun fades away.
- []Raising the difficulty helps, but it is not an ideal solution. Not only does doing so undermine the player’s sense of progression (by making them arbitrarily weaker), it also makes proper high level enemies overly challenging. This causes players to constantly adjust the difficulty just to enjoy the game again.
Engaging Combat addresses these issues by making the player’s power conditional on skillful play. Now when struck by a weapon or spell you fail to dodge or block, you’ll suffer damage-over-time effects; Bleed for physical hits and Spell Burn for magical ones.
- []These effects scale with your max health and stack with each hit, causing damage to escalate rapidly if you’re careless.
⚔️ENGAGING COMBAT's MECHANICS:
Mechanic IStacking Bleed & Spell Burn on Unblocked Hits
↑Gif above shows a high-level player tanking a level 1 Goblin's attacks.
Not blocking can cause bleed to stack to lethal levels.
-
[]By default, each stack of Bleed/Burn deals 3% of your Max Health per second over 4 seconds.
[]Since these effects scale with your health, they will always be relevant. You can no longer just ignore 'weak' enemies at high-levels.
[]You can modify the damage and duration of these effects in Engaging Combat's "main.lua" file. (You can edit it with Notepad).

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Lightweight and compatible, so it won't wreck your load order.
- Decent community trust with 164 endorsements.
- Actively maintained (updated July 2025).
⚠️ Cons
- No detailed feature list, so you're flying blind on what exactly changes.
- Small mod with limited endorsements compared to big overhauls.
- Compatibility with other combat mods is unverified—test before stacking.
For Oblivion players who've hit the level cap and find combat a snooze. If you want a simple, low-risk tweak to keep fights interesting, this fits. Skip if you need a full combat overhaul with new animations or mechanics.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's lightweight, you can drop it into your load order without much fuss, but always use a mod manager like Wrye Bash or OBMM.
- If you're using other combat mods, load this one after them to ensure its changes take priority.
- Check the mod's comments section for any reported conflicts with popular overhauls like Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.
