📋 About This Mod

Unique Voices
Remember that E3 video that showed Dark Elves sounding like they did in Morrowind? While I adore the (sometimes goofy) voice acting of Oblivion, including the vanilla elf voice, given that we now have the technology to get a bit closer to the original vision, I decided to try to do something about that!

So, without further ado, this is Unique Voices, or at least an early first iteration, which at the moment replaces the male Dark Elf voice with the one from Morrowind, achieved through ElevenLabs AI.

A few disclaimers:

  • []As opposed to my other voice mods, this one was achieved through automation. Doing everything by hand here would simply be too much work.

[]To avoid having to duplicate every single elf voice line, I developed a script that scans through the dialogue in a given mod and tries to filter out which lines could possibly be said by a given race and sex. This script is still under development, so there might be a few holes where I've missed some lines.

[]Voice conversion by ElevenLabs is very impressive, but not perfect. Sometimes words are mispronounced, others sound quite unnatural. This is a limitation of the technology at the moment, but for the most part it sounds perfectly serviceable.

[]The mod can be considered a WIP at the moment, since I'm adding the voices as I go along. Releasing every voice at once would mean having to wait for a long time for my ElevenLabs credits to renew.

[]Let People Speak - Voice Management Overhaul System is a requirement if you want the game to default to the vanilla elf voice whenever there's a voice line that hasn't been converted yet.

So there are a few caveats with the mod at the moment, but I wanted to share it anyway, because I need your help! I want to improve the mod, but I don't have time to listen through every single line of dialogue to do so. So what I'd like is for people to try it out and report any issues in the bugs section. So if you run into missing voice lines, weird pronunciations or audio artefacts, please do let me know. If there are voice lines that are bad enough to warrant it, I will manually recreate those myself. The same goes for mod support, although those will have to be prioritized accordingly.

Regarding other voices, the plan is to slowly add more voices as I go along. After male Dark Elves are 100%, I will probably tackle male High Elves or male Orcs next. Future work after races are finished could possibly include adding unique voice acting to specific NPCs.

    Installation:

[]Install the Unique Voices - Races.esp from the Main tab using your favorite mod manager.

[]Make sure it loads after other mods that alter races (such as Oblivion Character Overhaul 2)  and make sure to use a Bashed Patch to get the changes from both!

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community-tested with 98 endorsements and over 27k downloads—clearly some players dig it.
  • Fills a real gap: vanilla Oblivion races share voices, so this adds much-needed variety.
  • Lightweight and focused—doesn't mess with gameplay, just audio.

⚠️ Cons

  • Small mod with a niche appeal—98 endorsements means it's not a must-have for everyone.
  • Last updated in April 2024—might not be compatible with the latest Oblivion patches or mods.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Oblivion players who've heard the same voices for years and want a fresh audio experience without overhauling the whole game. If you're a lore purist or prefer vanilla audio, you can skip this—it's purely cosmetic in the audio sense.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 1 minute

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since it's an audio mod, make sure you don't have other voice mods that might conflict—check your load order.
  • If you're using Oblivion Mod Manager or Wrye Bash, you can easily toggle this mod on/off to test if you like it.
  • Consider backing up your original voice files if you want to revert, though the mod likely replaces them.
