Shield Art

I’ve often wondered why the only shield art, at least in the vanilla game, belongs to the town Guards. To get it you have to mug them. In an age like that of Cyrodiil, the shield is at the height of its significance. A brightly coloured shield was intended to act as a beacon, if you will, to both friend and foe alike. It was meant to strike fear into an enemy or to cause that enemy to make a mistake because of the shield’s presence on the field. To one’s own troops, the shield served to boost moral and make a commander easily visible in a battle. The shield also presented a family crest or seal, as well as that of businesses, military units, etc…. This is what inspired me to create this mod. Phitt has graciously allowed me to use the kite shield for sale at “The Knight’s Desire” in Chorrol as a base for my shield art. What? Did you think it was going to be free? :P In this mod I have included 30 national coats of arms, and if I left anyone out, I do apologize but there are just so many of them. I have also included over 50 traditional and fantasy style shields for everyone’s enjoyment. Installation Unzip to a separate location, once done, copy the entire Shield Art folder to – Oblivion/Data/Textures/PlateArmor. Now all you have to do is pick your shield (I’ve included a jpg with every shield so you can browse), and copy and paste the shield’s dds file back into the PlateArmor folder and overwrite. I’ve included copies of the originals in the folder for backups. Now just start up the game and head for the Knight’s Desire to buy your new Shield. Mine will show up in his inventory as the blank kite shield. If you would like more than one shield at a time, and you’re comfortable renaming files, then all you have to do is rename my file to Kite01Gryphon.dds or Kite01Gryphon_Drag.dds and then just follow the same installation procedure.
