📋 About This Mod
This mod attempts to create a rudimentary Depth of Field effect in your game. It\'s more like a camera focusing on close objects with the distance a bit blurry, than what the human eye does. It\'s very similar in look to the DOF in Gothic III. This is the omod version. For users who don\'t use obmm, use this version instead: http://tessource.net/files/file.php?id=8771 Note: There seem to be problems using this when also using both HDR and AA with an ATi x1000 series or nvidia 8000 series graphics card. If the entire screen blurs, you will have to disable either AA or HDR, or deactivate this mod. Note2: ATi cards don\'t seem to like the sm3 version of the shader. If you get a solid coloured screen with this mod enabled, try the sm2 version of the shader.
A 2008 Oblivion mod that adds a rudimentary Depth of Field effect, blurring distant objects while keeping close ones sharp, similar to Gothic's DOF. With 884 endorsements and 44,734 downloads, it's a classic visual enhancement for players wanting a cinematic camera feel.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community favorite with 884 endorsements and over 44k downloads
- Gives your game that cinematic camera focus without heavy performance hit
- Simple concept – just blur the background – and it works
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2008 – likely outdated for modern Oblivion setups
- Effect is rudimentary, not a true human-eye DOF, so purists may be disappointed
For Oblivion players who want a subtle cinematic depth effect without overhauling their graphics. Perfect for screenshot enthusiasts and roleplayers who want that Gothic-style focus. Skip if you're looking for modern, realistic DOF or if you're on a heavily modded setup that might conflict.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's an omod, use Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM) to install – just double-click and activate.
- Test in a busy area like the Imperial City to see the blur effect on distant buildings.
- If you use other visual mods, load this one early in your load order to avoid conflicts.
