Arcana Restored - Recharge Items at Wells

Description

This mod implements the ability to recharge enchanted weapons using Ayleid Wells and Magicka Essences in Oblivion gates, as described in the book Arcana Restored.

The way that items are recharged differs slightly for each magicka source. In both cases, you must have an enchanted weapon drawn that is not already fully charged and have both a Gold Nugget and the Arcana Restored book.

• []Ayleid Wells - Activating an Ayleid Well with the required items will automatically consume the Gold Nugget and recharge the weapon as you cast the Ayleid Power spell.[/]

  []Magicka Essences - Activating the fountain will provide a prompt letting you choose to either restore your magicka as normal or recharge your weapon. However, recharging your weapon this way will also cause you to become afflicted with the Manacaust effect, which damages your health over a short period. This can kill you if you are not prepared.[/]

  You need the book in your inventory to recharge an item as it specifically mentions the need to recite incantations from its pages. It is reasoned that these are too complex for the player to memorise (which provides additional balance as the player needs to constantly keep the book with them).

  A similar feature is included in UOP and some other mods, but the implementation in these cases does not actually match the book. UOP only covers the fountains found in Oblivion gates. It fully recharges all your enchanted items, which is very overpowered considering such an effect is only available from the finite Varla Stones in the vanilla game. The book is fairly explicit in describing the restoration of only one item. Also, the UOP does not include the Manacaust effect mentioned in the book or any other downside. The implementation in this mod is intended to be more balanced and lore-friendly.

  Interesting Fact:

  The book Arcana Restored originates from Battlespire, and supposedly explains how enchanted items (Arcana) are recharged. However, as far as I can tell, this isn't actually how items are recharged in that game, and instead the player uses "Gems" in much the same way as in other games. Some rare specimen that has actually played Battlespire can correct me if I'm wrong. If this is true, it means that the ability to recharge items as described in the book has never actually been a part of any Elder Scrolls game, despite many people mistakenly stating that
