📋 About This Mod

A vanilla balance pass to fix weapon type consistency, such as for two handed weapons.

INTRO:

(I'll try to be brief)

The balance between weapon types in Oblivion (Shortsword, Claymore, etc) is broken.

There's two major reasons for this, but suffice it to say, the difference in damage between weapon types is nonsensical and inconsistent.

I definitely understand that this is a game about playing pretend, and we pick our weapons based on a fantasy or role we want to play as opposed to any kind of meta gaming, but the DPS of a weapon should still be commensurate with its use.

WHAT THIS MOD DOES:

This mod uses Longswords as a baseline to balance the other weapon types around.

This means that Longswords are not affected by this mod.

At every material level, weapon types follow a general DPS difference:

Daggers: Even More

Waraxe: More

Shortsword: A Bit More

Longword: BASE

Mace: Slightly more

Claymore: A Bit More

Battleaxe: More

Warhammer: Even More

The difference between a Longsword and a Dagger or Warhammer is never more than 10%, it's very slight.

Claymores, Warhammers, and Battleaxes have increased range as well.

(Since this mod touches almost all weapons, it also comes with a fix for the following bugs:)

Depletion weapons now properly penetrate normal weapon resistance.

WHY IS THIS MOD NECESSARY?

Let's talk about those two major reasons.

The first is that the Longsword has the highest DPS of any weapon (at Iron), despite having the longest reach while still being able to use a shield.

You'd think a weapon that sacrifices range or a shield would give slightly more damage, but this isn't the case.

The mace, for example, has both a shorter range AND swing speed but the same damage as a Longsword, meaning it will always do a little less damage per second.

At iron, a Longsword has a DPS of around ~13. 5, while a Warhammer has about ~10. 5.

A Claymore is about ~9. 6 and a Dagger is a measly ~8. 9.

Basically, from a non role playing aspect, there's zero reason to use a something other than a Longsword for most of the game.

The second biggest issue is a

BIG ONE

. It's how weapons change with their material.

The way it works is that every weapon gets the same FLAT increase in damage per material.

Between Iron and Daedric, each weapon gets +14 damage.

A dagger that starts at 5 will end up at 19, and a warhammer at 14 will end up at 28.

This means that a Warhammer's DPS is about ~18% higher than a Dagger at Iron, but at Daed
