Better Auto Lockpick

This is a mod to improve the odds of the auto lockpick feature successfully picking the lock. I have three files. One improves the odds, the second does so to a lesser degree, and the third makes them guaranteed. You will still break lockpicks with the improved odds files. You just won't be likely to chew through 50 of them on a singular lock anymore. The security skill still matters too.

Oblivion's lockpicking minigame is divisive. Some love it, some hate it, and some want to choose whether to skip it on the fly. Unfortunately, the vanilla odds are pretty abysmal, to the point that you will never come close to what you could open if you just dealt with the minigame. In my opinion that defeats the point. It should be a viable alternative for those who want it.

Installation is rather simple. I only know how to do this manually at this time, but I am certain it could be automated.

For Steam users, extract the mod (.esp file) into:

Steam > steamapps > common > Oblivion Remastered > OblivionRemastered > Content > Dev > ObvData > Data

For GamePass users, extract the mod (.esp file) into:

XboxGames > The Elder Scrolls IV- Oblivion Remastered > Content > Dev > ObvData > Data

You should see Oblivion.esm in this same location, at least on Steam.

Moving on, there is still one more step. Open Plugins.txt and add a line to the bottom with the name of the .esp you opted to download. For example, if you are using the milder version, you would want BetterAutoLockpickMilder.esp as the last line. That's it! The mod should be working. Please be sure to only use one of the files at a time. While conventional wisdom is that new playthroughs are best for new mods, this type of mod should not be able to break any existing saves.

I tested both options against Hard and Very Hard locks with a Security skill of 10, 10 times. See results below expressed as lockpicks broken.

Main File Autopicking:

Hard: 3, 2, 0, 0, 3, 2, 2, 1, 3, 5 (Average 2. 1)

Very Hard: 2, 3, 3, 2, 4, 5, 5, 3, 0, 3 (Average 3)

Milder File Autopicking:

Hard: 0, 21, 2, 8, 2, 1, 4, 2, 16, 14 (Average 7)

Very Hard: 33, 14, 32, 30, 8, 21, 33, 12, 25, 19 (Average 22. 7)

Vanilla Autopicking:

Hard: 34, 33, 42, 12, 2, 0, 30, 42, 13, 8 (Average 21. 6)

Very Hard: Infinite (Impossible with Security Skill 10)

Handpicking:

Hard: 1, 2, 2, 4, 3, 1, 2, 1, 0,2 (Average 1. 8)

Very Hard: 1, 0, 3, 0, 3, 4, 8, 3, 0, 0 (Average 2. 2)
