📋 About This Mod

This is a pretty basic retexture I made of the Paradise Lost book you can get in FO3 from Tulip in Underworld.  Normally its model recycles the Lying, Congressional Style book, which bothered me.  The new cover is an engraving by Gustav Doré, which is in the public domain.  Diffuse is 1024, normal is 512.  I also included some (admittedly ham-fisted) icons for the book.  I tried to follow Consistent Pip-Boy Icons' standards, but I'm obviously no ItsMeJesusHChrist.

There's an optional file that replaces the cover for the copy you can get via the Delilah mod as well.  That's my favorite New Vegas companion mod, which means it's in pretty much all my playthroughs, so I had to make it for myself anyway.  It can also be used standalone, if you just want that change, since it's just a simple texture swap (scrumpusrex was nice enough to create a new model with its own file paths for Delilah's version).

PERMISSIONS NOTE

If you take a look at the permissions, you'll notice they're wide open.  This is for a couple reasons:

  • []The mod is basically all public domain resources and my own labor.  Public domain is just what it says--public--and basically my whole life illustrates that I don't value my time or labor.

[]I tried and tried for quite some time, but I could not figure out how to change the book's texture via scripting.  If you can, please, for the love of all that's holy, make this little waste of a plugin slot ESP-less and message me.  I'll happily upload it and boot this version down to an optional file for the people who hate Scriptrunner for whatever reason.

TOOLS & RESOURCES

Wikimedia Commons for the public domain Doré image.

StockVault for the weathering texture because nothing in Fallout should look new or clean.

GIMP to actually edit the thing and export it as a DDS.

Real-ESRGAN upscaler.  Gross, I know; I'm not a huge fan of AI upscaling either, but I needed to blow up FO3/FNV's tiny textures somehow.

Materialize to create the normal map (which I later realized I could've probably done in GIMP as well, but whatevs).

GECK Wiki to research implementing the texture swap via a script, which I ultimately failed to do like the dumb little gremlin I am.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

A small texture mod for Fallout 3 that gives the Paradise Lost book from Tulip in Underworld a unique cover, replacing the duplicate of Lying, Congressional Style. With 61 endorsements and over 56k downloads, it's a simple, focused fix for lore-conscious players.

✨ Key Features

Retextures the Paradise Lost book to have its own unique cover
Specifically changes the book obtained from Tulip in FO3's Underworld
Removes the duplicate appearance shared with Lying, Congressional Style

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Tiny download and easy install—just drop-in texture replacement
  • Lore-friendly fix for players who hate seeing the same book cover twice
  • Decent community trust with 61 endorsements and 56k downloads

⚠️ Cons

  • Only affects one item—if you're not a stickler for book covers, you won't notice it
  • No screenshots or detailed install notes in the description, so you're flying blind
  • Last updated in 2024, but no confirmation it works with the latest TTW patches
🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout 3/TTW players who care about environmental storytelling and want unique items to stand out. Skip if you're not bothered by duplicate book textures or want more substantial visual overhauls.
