📋 About This Mod
Description:
The economy is this game SUCKS. Plain and simple. Through hundreds of hours of play-testing my mod Transcendence, I believe I found a very good balance for everything. This mod essentially serves as a standalone and greatly expanded version of the economy from that mod. It also features a INI file and MCM to configure various features. I'll break down the features into categories:
Remade Item Values:
Item values have been tweaked to be much closer to Fallout 3's economy (or, the pre-release economy in New Vegas). Unlike other economy mods, this does not apply a static formula to all items. Instead, values have been hand-picked and tested across hundreds of hours to ensure the best possible balance.
Values are changed using a new custom INI preset system. The mod will read from any . INI files in the SEXPresets folder. INIs will be applied alphabetically, meaning aPreset.ini will be overwritten by zPreset.ini. For custom INIs, presets should be set-up as follows:
;This header is necessary!
ItemEditorID=MyValueInteger
;For example:
Weap10mmPistol=100 ;Will set the value of the 10mm Pistol to 100 caps. Value must be an integer, any floats will be floored.
The preset system can be used to change any item from vanilla or any mod. The script checks to see if the specified EditorID is valid before making any changes, so even if an item from non-loaded mod is present, there will be no errors.
Rebalanced Vendors:
Vendors have been given a much lower overall cap count to account for the lowered economy. Cap chests have also been fixed and improved. Gamesettings related to purchase/sell prices have been tweaked a-la Harder Barter Faster Stronger. These values are configurable in the INI/MCM. Vendor discounts have been greatly reduced. Various item types have an additional custom multiplier set on their buy/sell prices (e.g. Equipment/Ammo is 10% more expensive). This feature is configurable in the included INI for lStewieAl's Tweaks. Vendors will also only buy items related to their profession. The system uses a KEYWORD system, see the bottom of the description for details. This feature is configurable in the included INI for lStewieAl's Tweaks.
Rebalanced Doctors:
Prices for healing from Doctor's have been increased to balance out their usefulness vs. traditional healing items. In vanilla, finding a Doctor and getting a full heal is way cheaper and more effective than using healing items. With this mod, healing from a Doctor is still much more effective, but is more expensive to compensate.
Simple Economy eXpansion is a large-scale economy overhaul for Fallout 4 that applies bespoke tweaks across all economic areas, featuring a custom INI preset system for adjusting item values. With 67 endorsements and 9,820 downloads, it's a niche but functional mod for players seeking deeper economic balance.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Custom INI presets give you direct control over item values—tweak to your liking
- Decent download count (9,820) shows it's been tried by a fair number of players
- Overhaul scope means it touches more than just prices—likely affects the whole economy
⚠️ Cons
- Low endorsement count (67) compared to downloads suggests mixed reception or niche appeal
- No detailed documentation provided—you'll have to figure out the INI system yourself
- Last updated May 2026—may not be compatible with the latest game patches or other economy mods
For Fallout 4 players who want a deeper, more customizable economy without overhauling the entire game. If you enjoy tweaking values via INI files and want a mod that adjusts prices across the board, this is for you. Skip if you prefer simple, plug-and-play mods or want a full gameplay overhaul.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since the mod uses INI presets, back up your original INI files before tweaking so you can revert if something breaks.
- Load this mod early in your load order to avoid conflicts with other economy or settlement mods.
- Test the value changes in-game by buying and selling a few items to see if the balance feels right.
