📋 About This Mod

Requested by ineedausernamenexusgivemet

Adds 2 new perks that help you spot valuables and hostile targets as if you had Rex and Boone as companions, respectively.

Eye For Profit - Level 4, Perception 6, Barter 45 (FormID - 001098) Marks many nearby items (most food, chems, weapons, and ammo, as well as containers holding them) while aiming / zoomed as if you had Rex with you.

Self Spotter - Level 8, Perception 7, Guns 75 (FormID - 000ADD) Marks targets while aiming / zoomed as if you had Boone with you.

Both perks should work with mods that change the artwork of the marking effects, but I don't use those so I haven't tested them. Works perfectly with any DLC. Any mods that change the companion perks (besides the marking artwork) will not have their changes applied to the new perks.

This mod does not have any mod or DLC dependencies.

If you want the perk(s) without spending any perk points, go into the console and type: player.addperk FormID (replace ** in the FormID with the two digit load order code for SelfSpotter.esp shown on your load order program) To remove the perk(s), go into the console and type: player.removeperk FormID

Note: This is not a toggle. Upon taking the perk(s), hostile targets and/or items will ALWAYS be marked while aiming/zoomed until you remove the perk(s) via console. I simply don't have the scripting skills to make a working toggle, so please don't ask. I have an idea that I might work on soon, if I can figure out how to have a perk give an item when you take the perk, or have an armor item give/remove a perk upon equip/unequip. If anyone knows how to write the scripts to do so, please contact me.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community-approved (567 endorsements) and over 10k downloads — clearly a popular pick.
  • No DLC or mod requirements — works with a vanilla setup, which is a huge plus for purists.
  • Gives you the spotting perks without needing to drag Rex or Boone along — perfect for lone wanderers.

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in 2013 — might have compatibility issues with newer mod setups or game patches.
  • Only two perks — if you're expecting a full perk overhaul, this is just a small QoL tweak.
  • No documentation on how the perks are balanced or if they stack with other perks — you're going in blind.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout: New Vegas players who want the convenience of Rex and Boone's spotting abilities without having to keep those companions around. Also great for stealth or lone-wolf builds where you don't want a companion tagging along. Skip if you're looking for a major gameplay overhaul — this is a simple QoL addition.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since it's an older mod, make sure your load order is sorted with LOOT to avoid conflicts.
  • If you're using a mod manager, install it manually or via manager — either works, but manual is just dropping files into your Data folder.
  • Test the perks on a fresh save to see if they trigger correctly, especially if you have other perk mods installed.
