What?
I don't remember how exactly, but while I was bored at work, I had an idea to make a mod that passes time while player is crafting or cooking items in the game.
So, once I came home, ate rosół, and decided to make something. After 3 hours of wrangling with the rendering, I managed to make menu backgrounds render continually. Plug some animation update and tadaa! Grass sways. Particles move. Models animate.
Okay, that was easy. Too easy in fact. This left me wondering with the usual question - how far can I go? Can I... can I actually make game pass time? Can the world actually be simulated?
2 hours later, I have done it. World lives during menus. Easy Pete boldly demonstrates how he's shooting me while I look for items in Pip-Boy. Amazing.
So, is it done? what now? Dialogue? VATS?
Fast forward... HOLY SHIT IT'S BEEN 3 MONTHS???????????????????????? and we are here.
That was a cool story, but you didn't actually explain anything
Indeed! Fine, me from few seconds ago - I'll do it.
The Real What?
You, dear Fallout: New Vegas player, are probably familiar with our menu system. You open a menu, game pauses. You close it, game resumes. Pretty common in games.
This mod, well, makes the game not do that.
The world no longer waits while the mighty Courier looks for the 10th Psycho in the inventory. Raiders no longer stand still, waiting for you to make up your mind as to which limb of theirs is going to blow up. Entering shops 5 minutes before closing and browsing storekeeper's wares for 2 hours now has consequences.
And most importantly:
You can see hours pass by while talking to a single FNV character.
Here's what exactly you can do:
[](Un)Pause specific menu types. Want to play with paused Pip-Boy, but unpaused containers? Sure. Paused dialogue? Got it.
You can toggle states for:
- Dialogue,
- Lockpick Menu,
- Computers Menu,
- Service Menus (container, barter, crafting, repair)
- Companion Wheel
[]Disable menu backgrounds. Don't want to have the view blurred while in P

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Immersive and tense—every second in menus counts, making combat and exploration more thrilling.
- Community-approved with 468 endorsements and nearly 40k downloads, so it's proven and popular.
- Simple and focused—does exactly what it says without bloat or extra features.
⚠️ Cons
- Can be frustrating if you need to manage inventory or read notes while enemies are nearby—no pause means no safety.
- May break some quests or scripts that rely on pausing during dialogue or menu interactions.
- Requires NVSE, so you'll need to install that first if you haven't already.
For Fallout: New Vegas players who want a more hardcore, immersive experience where the wasteland doesn't wait for you. Perfect for survivalists and roleplayers who enjoy the tension of managing gear under pressure. Skip if you prefer a relaxed, pause-friendly playstyle or if you're not comfortable with mod dependencies.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure NVSE is installed correctly—launch the game through NVSE's loader, not the default launcher, or the mod won't work.
- Test the mod in a safe area first to get used to the lack of pause before heading into combat.
- If you use other UI mods, check for compatibility patches, as they may conflict with menu behavior.
