  Overview

  Perks are a mixed bag in New Vegas. Some are good, some absolutely suck, and some are stupidly powerful. But the worst part about the perks in this game is the progression. Some batshit insane perks are available relatively early and allow you to rinse through the game, while some middling perks are unlocked too late to be relevant. I consider the changes to level, skill and attribute requirements to be the key feature of this mod; but I also included plenty of features that totally change the way you can build and play a character. Using most of JSawyer's perk changes as a base, I created this mod with the following design principles:

  1. Progression has been finely polished. In vanilla and JSawyer, some fairly overpowered perks like Better Criticals were available at pretty low levels, while quite a few crappy perks (like Roughin' It) were unavailable to players until waaaaaay. I changed this, making all the perks pretty much evenly distributed between levels 2 and 30 (And for you Level 35 cap players, a script will automatically distribute them between 2 and 20), with the exception of the endgame karma perks and the 2nd rank of Implant GRX. You'll notice I spread the perks out a little wider across the levels. Underappreciated SPECIALs are dealt out as requirements for more perks, and perks for each skill are neatly spaced out from each other, avoiding them clumping at certain levels. Progression is overall clearer now; levels 2 and 4 have basic perks with simple SPECIAL or low skill requirements, and Level 30 is home to only the best.

  2. No perk left behind. Vanilla New Vegas has some crazy good perks that tend to get taken every playthrough regardless of build, like Better Criticals or Chemist. It would suck to outright nerf them (because they're fun and being powerful is fun), but in order to make them harder for just about any character to obtain, they've been giving higher SPECIAL and level requirements, so building your character takes more time and careful attribute allocation. The only exception to the no-nerf rule is Educated (which Sw
