NVSD - String Distributor

NVSD (New Vegas String Distributor) is a utility mod for Fallout: New Vegas that allows translation and text replacement without hard-edits to plugins.

It is inspired by DSD – Dynamic String Distributor for Skyrim, but implemented as a proof-of-concept solution specifically for Fallout: New Vegas.

NVSD reads translated strings from external JSON files and injects them into the game at runtime, making translations update-safe, load-order aware, and modular.

The Problem NVSD SolvesFor non-English players, translating mods usually means:

• []Editing ESP/ESM files directly via xEdit

  []Repeating the translation after every mod update

  []Maintaining multiple patched versions

  []Risking conflicts and broken records

NVSD eliminates this workflow. Translations are stored outside the plugin, so mod updates no longer overwrite your work.

How NVSD Works

NVSD consists of two main components:

Runtime String Injection

• []NVSD loads JSON files per record signature

  []JSON files are placed in: Data/Strings/

  []These files can be:

  []Packaged with any mod

  []Installed separately via MO2

[]During runtime, NVSD:

• []Reads the JSON strings

  []Injects them into the game

  []Applies load-order–aware overwrites

  []Allows ESPs or other JSONs to override strings cleanly

  JSON Export Script

  A custom JSON export script automatically:

  • []Extracts already translated strings

    []From any ESP/ESM plugin

    []Exports them into the MO2 overwrite folder

    []Organized per record signature

  From there, you simply:
  • []Move the JSON files into the corresponding mod

    []Ship translations without touching the plugin itself

      []Strings can be overridden by:

      []ESP/ESM plugins

    • Other JSON files

      To avoid stutters, hitches, or delayed string injection during gameplay, NVSD processes all JSON files once at the Main Menu. Depending on the number of translated plugins and JSON files, this process can take a few seconds. While NVSD is processing strings, a status log is shown in the top-left corner of the Main Menu.

      Do NOT load a save while NVSD is Processing

      Performance can be adjusted per config.ini !
