📋 About This Mod

Requirements:

  • []xNVSE[/]

    []kNVSE[/]

    []JIP LN NVSE[/]

    []ShowOff NVSE[/]

    []Johnny Guitar NVSE[/]

    []Honest Hearts[/]

    Description:

This mod aims to diversify combat by allowing NPCs to use a number of chems/medicines to restore health or limb condition.

NPCs that are members of factions that do not use chems in-lore use medicine items instead.

Effects of chems/medicines are applied based off of the animation played. Effects will not be applied until you see the NPC use the item.

Vanilla chem/medicine effects are used for simplicity and equality with the player.

This mod uses the game's Idle Manager to determine when an NPC should heal.

When the conditions are met for an NPC to use a chem/medicine, they will play an animation (injecting a stimpak, drinking bitter drink, etc.) Using kNVSE Text Keys - a script is called that has the NPC say a line (unless they are eating/drinking the chem/medicine), plays a sound of the item being used and applies the effects of the chem/medicine. Afterwards, a cooldown effect is applied to the NPC that prevents them from using additional chems/medicines for a time.

The NPC never has to have or be given a chem/medicine; the cooldowns are intended to balance the healing and prevent it from seeming like NPCs have an endless supply of healing.

    Healing:

When an NPC's health percentage falls below a certain value (100-40% depending on their Confidence stat) one of the following items are used

    • []Stimpak[/]

      []Healing Powder[/]

      []Bitter Drink[/]

Healing Powder and Bitter Drink will only be used by members of the factions in the qlccFLSTNoChemFactions FormList (see below) They will not use stimpaks.

Bitter Drink is used at random instead of Healing Powder 33% of the time.

    Restoring Limb Condition:

If an NPC has a crippled limb, they will use the following item(s)

    • []Healing Poultice[/]

      []Hydra[/]

Healing Poultice will only be used by members of the factions in the qlccFLSTNoChemFactions FormList (see below) They will not use Hydra.

The wiki describes the Healing Poultice as an ointment, so the animation I put together is of the character rubbing it into their chest.

    Curing Poison:

If an NPC is poisoned, they will use the following item(s)

    • []Antivenom[/]

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Adds a new layer of realism to combat—enemies actually pop chems like you do.
  • Solid community support with 180 endorsements and over 31k downloads.
  • Lightweight and focused: does one thing and does it well.

🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout: New Vegas players who want more immersive and challenging combat, where enemies fight back with chems just like the player. Perfect for those who already use NVSE-based mods and want to add depth to enemy AI. Skip if you prefer vanilla combat or don't want to deal with multiple dependencies.
