📋 About This Mod

The What

Simple ESPless mod that modifies XP gained from kills based on level difference between player and targets. Configurable via INI or MCM (if you install MCM Extender).

There is a setting in Stewie's tweaks, but its formula is a linear function of level difference. So I made this mod instead to have a more flexible modification on XP.

Optional (toggle on by default).

The calculation is done using a sigmoid/logistic function with level difference as variable. How it's defined and the curve with default parameters are shown in picture below. Its 3 parameters b, k, mu (the greek letter) can be configured by INI. Use a math tool to plot the function and find what parameters are best for your playthrough.

x is level difference between player and target. Only target > player case is considered in this mod. b is base XP reward, which is the limit of the function as x goes to infinity. k controls how steep the curve is. And mu controls where the steepest point lies. In the default case, player start to have significant additional XP when targets are higher by around 10 levels, then the reward approaches the limit at around 20 levels difference. In the limit case with player level 1 and target level 50, player gets a total of 100 XP additional reward.

2. Penalty

Optional (toggle off by default).

Penalty calculation is similar to reward, but is multiplicative instead of additive. It uses a reversed sigmoid function as shown in below picture (with default parameters). The multiplier ranges from 1 to a min value m you like. k and mu have same meaning as in reward.

Requirements

xNVSE, JIP, Johnny Guitar, ShowOff.

MCM Extender if you want easy in-game configuration.

Install requirements and mod itself using a mod manager then you're good to go.

Recommendation

Recommend to use a mod like UnLeveled Lists - ESPLess, to make high level targets more common.

Future Update?

This mod just arise from a simple idea. The feature and implementation are, I believe, lightweight too.

I may add more parameters if there are reasonable suggestions. But maybe I'll just keep everything as simple as possible.

Credits

LowbeeBob for pointing out a simple mistake that I should use "ln" instead of "gr" in script runner. And in general being patient to help debug scripts from my random mods.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Configurable XP reward/penalty mod for Skyrim that uses a sigmoid function to adjust XP based on level difference. With 49 endorsements and 11,182 downloads, it's a niche but popular choice for players wanting a more balanced progression system. Last updated January 2026, it's actively maintained.

✨ Key Features

Adjusts XP rewards and penalties based on the difference between player and enemy levels.
Uses a sigmoid function to compute XP scaling, providing smooth transitions.
Configurable settings allow players to tweak the XP curve to their preference.
ESPless design means no plugin file, reducing load order conflicts.
Actively updated as of January 2026.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Sigmoid-based scaling is a smart approach—it keeps early game balanced and late game challenging without harsh cliffs.
  • 11,000+ downloads shows it's got a solid user base, even if endorsements are modest.
  • ESPless means it's lightweight and won't clutter your load order.

⚠️ Cons

  • Only 49 endorsements—could be a sign that it's not widely tested or that users aren't compelled to endorse.
  • No detailed documentation on how to configure the settings—you'll have to dig into the files yourself.
  • Since it's ESPless, it might require a specific mod manager setup to work correctly, which could trip up beginners.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Skyrim players who want a more dynamic XP system that rewards taking on tougher foes and punishes grinding weak enemies. If you're tired of the vanilla flat XP curve and want a configurable challenge, this is for you. Skip if you prefer simple, plug-and-play mods without tweaking.
📦 Install:Medium· 5-10 minutes

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since it's ESPless, make sure you're using a mod manager that supports ESL-flagged plugins, like Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex.
  • Check the mod's config file (likely in SKSE/Plugins) to adjust the sigmoid parameters—start with small changes to see how it feels.
  • Pair this with difficulty mods like Wildcat or Blade and Blunt for a more cohesive combat experience.
