📋 About This Mod
Kikue's FNVIntro.bik Upscale
Upscales FNVIntro.bik (The video that plays when starting a new game) from 720p 30fps to 1080p 60fps using Topaz Video AI.
.bik decoding will run on 2 logical processes (2 threads) to my understanding.
My Ryzen 1600 can handle decoding 1080p30 Balanced and 1080p60 Balanced.
My Friends 7600 can handle decoding 4k30 Balanced and 4k60 Balanced.
Find what works for you. If you can handle 4k30 or 4k60, and you have a 1080p screen, I would HIGHLY recommend it. it essentially totally avoids the problem below, until I find a fix.
/!\ Currently chasing a problem where Obsidian's implementation of resizing the window will offset (at 1080p) the pixels by 0. 5 of a pixel downwards, and 0. 5 of a pixel right - creating a significant blurring effect, similar to if it was resized from a lower resolution (For anyone technical, it's essentially a half pixel box blur). This upscale Will still be better than the original - especially if you prefer the 60fps version, but not up to my standards /!\
IMPROVEMENTS TO THIS MOD ARE HALTED UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS FIXED.
Update 0. 1. 2a - Huge update, especially for 1080p60. Here's the changes:
-
[]8k upscale, then downscale to 1080p (better quality - especially helps 1080p60, reducing artificial sharpening caused by running Apollo 8 frame interpolation on >4k resolution)
[
]True audio demux using vgmstream (Entirely Lossless audio)[]Better compression (Especially in motion, and much less visual compression)
[]Higher bitrate (especially for 1080p60)
[]Multiple Languages Pulling the different streams, as text isn't translated. Follow the mix in audio instructions if you just want the audio.
-
[]Refresh documentation
[]x265, x264 slightly lossy 4k60 versions for use in youtube videos, etc.
[]Stable 1440p30 and 1440p60 versions (4k might be impossible to run smoothly in New Vegas).
-
[]FFmpeg for encoding and decoding.
HuffYUV .avi lossless rgb24

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Huge download count (300k+) shows many players trust it
- Simple visual upgrade—just replaces the intro video, no gameplay changes
- Last updated recently (Nov 2024), so likely compatible with current game versions
⚠️ Cons
- Only 78 endorsements compared to downloads—maybe not many people bothered to endorse
- Only affects the intro video, so if you skip intros, it's pointless
For players who appreciate a crisp, high-frame-rate intro and want to start the game with a polished feel. Skip if you always skip the intro or don't care about video quality.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to replace the original intro video file in the game's directory, but keep a backup of the original in case you want to revert.
- If the mod doesn't work, check that you're placing the file in the correct folder—usually the game's main directory or a 'Movies' subfolder.
- Since this is a video file replacement, no mod manager is needed; just drop it in.
