You should avoid installing/uninstalling/switching your version of the mod while the item is equipped, other than that It should also be safe to install/uninstall on an active save. Its best if you install the mod before you get the item. The only thing I changed was the enchantment on the armor. So it shouldn't conflict so long as it doesn't change that enchantment, or replaces it with another. I'm not well versed in modding, so take this all with a grain of salt.
