FLV JOD Freeside ( Fabulous Las Vegas, Jewel of the Desert, Section Freeside) is a mod that intends to enhance the sight and atmosphere inside Freeside by providing 1)new buildings and neon signs, so the place could look closer to what real life downtown once looked in the old vegas era (since it’s the Vegas phase that better suits the game lore): full of resorts and neon lights everywhere; 2)alternate unique model replacers for all the Vanilla Buildings that were blessed with an interior, in an attempt to make them stand out and give them the importance they have for the gameplay: The School of Impersonation, Silver Rush, Atomic Wrangler, Mick & Ralphs, Ruined Store and Cerulean Robotics.

Las Vegas is a city well known for its potential for entertainment and pleasure. When someone mentions it, the first images that came to your mind are casinos, slot machines, themes, sex, booze, shows, hotels, bets, neon lights, cards, sexy women and men, stores… you expect to find some of these things there. The first time I entered to New Vegas Strip I found all of that. However, the first time I entered to Freeside… the experience was very frustrating. Seeing the marvelous Freeside neon sign above the overpass outside the North Gate, my mind predicted something special would be in the other side of the Billboard walls, something that could resemble a little Las Vegas downtown: an area filled with dilapidated /yet functional and destroyed and boarded up resorts, ruined neon signs, the remains of billboards and posters advertising prewar spectacles, and so on. But things were very different… just a bunch of similar generic boarded up buildings everywhere with a few NPCs here and there. I wished someone could make something to solve the issue in the future, maybe through downloadable content (my first gameplay experience in NV was with XBOX 360)…but that didn’t happened. Time passed and I bought the PC version, which gave me the chance to get mods that somehow added interiors and new content to Freeside. A lot of them were great, but I wasn’t still satisfied. I wanted to be able to see resorts everywhere I looked, whether they would be destroyed or still functional (like in Thundar the Barbarian cartoon)…and to be able to explore them. That’s how the idea of this mod was born.

FLVJOD-Freeside reworked the concept of Freeside in a way that keeps in part the idea of the overpopulated, dangerous and abject slum, but at the same time turns it into what can be considered a real jewel of the desert; a place full of resorts, neon lights, sex, gambling, and so on. The way I see it, Freeside is divided in 4 sections: North (Starts in North gate and finishes on the corner where the Mick and Ralphs Crier is working), East (starts in East Gate and finishes where The School of Impersonation starts), South (Starts where the School of Impersonation is located and finishes in the Strip North Gate) and West( Starts whe
