📋 About This Mod
Name: Companion Disguises Author: vivanto Version: 2. 00 Date: 2011. 02. 25. Category: Companions Link: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38768 =============== Description: =============== Allows your companions to use faction armor disguises. =============== Details: =============== Allows all of your vanilla humanoid companions to wear most kind of faction armors, while non-humanoids can carry them in their inventory without restrictions. Your companion disguised as a faction member will have similar effects to them as you do. They will be attacked on sight by the enemies of the specific faction, while members of the faction will be friendly to them. The player will share some of these traits with the companion, but not all. If you have Cass equip an NCR armor in middle of a Legion camp, both of you will be shot to death. But if you put a legion armor on your companion, you will need one too for a successful disguise inside legion territory. Companions will also be subject to \"sniffing\" factions, but due to the nature of the faction system, this only matters much if they are otherwise enemies of that faction, which is quite rare. However, assuming you are in the same disguise as your companion, if he or she gets caught then it will blow your cover too. Whenever your companions disguise is changed, you get a notification message on the top-left corner of the screen. New in version 2. 00 only: You get constant faction reminder messages similar to player disguises every 5 minutes. You can turn off reminder messages by the following console commands. set CompanionDisguiseReminder to 0 - disables messages set CompanionDisguiseReminder to 1 - enables messages Redesigning the script also allowed a more exact approach on each and every companion. Some of them may still refuse to wear certain faction armors always or depening on certaing circumstances as follows: Caesar\'s Legion <- Arcade, Boone and Cass will never wear them. Powder Ganger <- Boone will never wear them. Brotherhood of Steel <- Boone will only wear if the BoS has joined the NCR. Great Khan <- Boone will only wear if the Khans have joined the NCR. NCR <- Veronica will only wear if the BoS has joined the NCR. Other Companion + Faction combinations not listed above are all allowed without restrictions. Also note, that Boone is always a visible member of the NCR, regardless how you disguise him, thus you will not be notified if he equips NCR armor as that\'s the normal behaviour. On the other hand, unlike Boone, Veronica is not a visible member of the Brotherhood, but rather a Spy and Emissary, it does make a difference wether she\'s actually wearing a BoS power armor or not, disposing her allegiance to the public. =============== Requirements: =============== Fallout New Vegas =============== Install: =============== 1. ✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Simple and effective: lets your companions actually use disguises, which is a huge QoL improvement for stealth builds.
- Community-tested with 255 endorsements and 6,234 downloads — clearly works for a lot of players.
- Tiny mod, so it won't bloat your load order or cause performance hits.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2011 — might have compatibility issues with newer mods or DLCs, though it's likely fine for vanilla.
- No documentation or install instructions provided by the author, so you're on your own if something goes wrong.
- Only affects companions' disguise usage — doesn't add new armors or change gameplay beyond that.
For Fallout: New Vegas players who love stealth runs and want their companions to actually be useful for infiltration. If you're tired of your follower ruining your disguise, this is a must-have. Skip if you're looking for new armor or companion overhauls — this is purely a functional tweak.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure to give your companion the faction armor and then have them equip it — the disguise should work automatically.
- If you're using a mod manager like Vortex or FOMM, just drop the file into your Data folder or use the manager's install feature.
- Test with a quick save before relying on it in a mission — some faction armors might not be recognized if you have other mods altering them.
