📋 About This Mod
THIS MOD IS NOW DEPRECATED IN FAVOUR OF STEWIE'S TWEAKS - bRememberWeaponAmmos
INTRODUCTION
Ammo Count Memory does exactly what it says on the tin - makes the game memorise your ammo count! In the vanilla game, every time you switch weapons it fully reloads whatever you're switching to, meaning that as long as you have two weapons and enough ammo on you, it's impossible to be caught empty-handed. Up until now, the only mod on the Nexus which fixed this problem was Manual Reload by LoremIpsum, which was uploaded a month after New Vegas came out (!) and was last updated in the middle of 2013. It's safe to say that modding has come a long way since then, and while LoremIpsum's mod is still perfectly functional, it was time for a modern alternative.
REQUIREMENTS
WILL NOT FUNCTION WITHOUT BOTH OF THESE:
• New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE)
• JIP LN NVSE Plugin
RECOMMENDATIONS
All of these mods are HIGHLY recommended for use alongside Ammo Count Memory:
- []IStewieAl's Tweaks by lStewieAl, particularly the settings bManualReload = 1 and bClipSizeMatters = 1.
- []Just Mods Assorted by Yvileapsis, as this mod is fully compatible with Just Weapon Hweel (not a typo) and Just Loot Menu.
LIMITATIONS
See the "Bugs" tab in the top right of this page.
KNOWN INCOMPATIBILITIES
• One Man Army NVSE by C16, completely breaks my mod when using hotkeys to switch weapons
CREDIT

[*]Yvileapsis for refining this mod and making it actually functional and annoying korri by nitpicking his code.[
Ammo Count Memory is a small Fallout: New Vegas mod that stops weapons from auto-reloading when you switch between them, requiring NVSE and JIP LN. With 585 endorsements and 15,385 downloads, it's a niche quality-of-life tweak for players who want more control over their ammo management.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved with 585 endorsements, so plenty of players vouch for it
- Solves a specific annoyance for players who hate auto-reload on weapon swap
- Simple and lightweight—no bloat, just one clear change
⚠️ Cons
- Requires both NVSE and JIP LN, so you need to set those up first
- Last updated in April 2020—might have issues with newer game versions or mod setups
- Only affects auto-reload on switch; if you wanted more ammo management options, this won't cover them
For Fallout: New Vegas players who find auto-reload on weapon switch annoying and want more control over their ammo. If you're a survivalist or roleplayer who likes to manage every bullet, this is a must-have. Skip if you're fine with the default behavior or don't want to bother with NVSE and JIP LN dependencies.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure NVSE and JIP LN are installed and working before adding this mod—test by launching the game with them active.
- Since it's a simple plugin, you can install it manually by dropping the .esp into your Data folder, but using a mod manager like Mod Organizer 2 is safer for load order.
- Check the mod's comments or forum for any known issues with other mods that alter weapon behavior, as compatibility might be a concern.
