📋 About This Mod
Lexington Class Battlecruiser, Project CC-2 Constellation Parts:2000(537) Historical Introduction: HIGH-SPEED THOROUGHBREDS The Lexington-class battlecruisers were controversial ship types designed by the U. S. Navy but never completed. Their design overturned traditional capital ship concepts, becoming the predecessor of World War II aircraft carrier task forces. In the early 20th century, U. S. Navy capital ship designs emphasized firepower and protection, with speed considered secondary. After the 1908 Naval War College conference, the ship design process was coordinated by multiple agencies, including the General Staff and the Naval War College. With the launch of the British battlecruiser HMS Invincible, the U. S. began to focus on this ship type. In 1910, the General Staff initiated battlecruiser research based on the Wyoming-class battleships. In 1912, Robinson, head of the Preliminary Design Office, submitted multiple design versions, which were not adopted due to excessive displacement. In 1916, the U. S. Congress passed a large-scale naval construction plan, authorizing the construction of 10 battleships and 6 battlecruisers. The design focus shifted to "combat reconnaissance ships". The 1915 Design 144 established basic parameters such as 32,000 tons displacement and 35 knots speed. The 1917 Design 169 adopted an electric turbine propulsion system, but overweight issues arose due to added torpedo protection, later mitigated by adjusting the power layout. During the Battle of Jutland, British battlecruisers sank due to magazine explosions, but the U. S. Navy still adhered to the Lexington-class design with a 5-inch armor belt, believing high-speed mobility could compensate for insufficient protection. In 1919, the design enhanced protection, with displacement increasing to approximately 40,000 tons and speed decreasing to 33 knots. The 1922 Washington Naval Armament Conference led to the cancellation of the Lexington-class construction. Uncompleted hulls w
