📋 About This Mod

The mod has three options configurable in MCM:

  • []Random directional attacks (default true)

[]Damage as if using best attack (default true)

  • Always thrust with spears (default false)

Random directional attacks selects an attack by random instead of based on your movement. The chance of each attack is weighed by its damage - sabers while more often slash and chop while longswords will more often thrust. Axes and maces will never thrust. It will never use the same attack twice in a row. This overrides the game's "Always use best attack" option.

If you'd rather control the attacks yourself but still do optimal damage you can turn random attacks off but keep Damage as if using best attack on.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Varied Directional Attacks is a pluginless MWSE mod for Morrowind that adds variety to player combat animations while maintaining the damage of the weapon's best attack, similar to Oblivion and Skyrim. It has 36 endorsements and was last updated in July 2024.

✨ Key Features

Adds variety to player combat animations.
Damage is calculated as if using the weapon's best attack.
Pluginless MWSE mod, no esp required.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • No plugin means no load order headaches—just drop it in and go.
  • Combat feels more dynamic without sacrificing damage output.
  • Small but active community (36 endorsements) and recently updated (July 2024).

⚠️ Cons

  • Requires MWSE, so if you're not running the script extender, this won't work.
  • Only affects the player, not NPCs—so enemies still use vanilla animations.
  • Limited to directional attacks; doesn't overhaul other combat mechanics.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Morrowind players who want more fluid combat animations without changing damage balance. If you're tired of the same swing animations and want a Skyrim-like feel, this is for you. Skip if you're looking for a full combat overhaul—this is purely cosmetic animation variety.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you have MWSE installed and updated to the latest version, as this mod relies on it.
  • Since it's pluginless, just place the files in your Data Files folder and enable MWSE's lua loading.
  • Test with different weapon types to see the animation variety—it works with all melee weapons.
