📋 About This Mod
I’ve been working on an overhaul of the Red Mountain, since in my opinion this region is by far the least detailed landscape in vanilla
Morrowind. Many cells contain little more than one or two rocks, which
feels far too sparse for such a central and iconic area.
"Red Mountain is a vast volcano that dominates the island of Vvardenfell in Morrowind, and is the second highest mountain in Tamriel. The island actually took its name from the volcano: the original name of Red Mountain was Vvardenfell, which translates to "City of the Strong Shield" in Dwemeris. On a clear day, Red Mountain's peak can be seen from the city of Mournhold, some 250 miles to the south. The mountain is generally considered the most dangerous region in all of Vvardenfell."
from uesp
The Red Mountain now rises more imposing than ever before. Beyond the familiar foyadas, a narrow and arduous path winds into barren heights, where no trees grow and only volcanic rock lines the way. The landscape bears the marks of erosion, earthquakes, and ancient eruptions: jagged cliffs, loose scree fields, and lava-carved ravines. Those who dare the ascent will encounter a harsh, alien wilderness that makes the Red Mountain even more mysterious for explorers.
Yes, I know there are other mods that make Red Mountain larger and rockier too, but this is just another vanilla-friendly alternative, without new rock models apart from a few from TR.
All cells of the region were carefully reworked, along with a few cells from Ald’ruhn towards Ghostgate.
Goal of the Mod
-
[]A complete redesign and expansion of the Red Mountain region, so that it feels like a distinct, fully realized landscape in its own right.
[
]A lore-friendly implementation without stylistic breaks, so that the region fits both in vanilla and alongside TR.Technical Basis

[]I used Red Mountain Reborn as the foundation.
[
]My work was guided by the TR Exterior Guide.[]The focus has been on a clean, detailed design of the landscape without causing unnecessary performance issues.
Future
For the future, my attention turns to the Grazelands (I dislike that perfectly straight line to the Ashlands), the West Gash (inconsistencies in the distribution of rocks), and the Foyadas (where does the lava disappear to?).
I already have a few ideas regarding this, and if you have any suggestions, feel free to share them. :)
Open for Feedback
Since I would like to join the TR exterior team in the future (once Vvardenfell has reached a solid level), I would greatly
appreciate if one of the exterior devs could take a look at my work and
give me feedback:
[]What still feels unfinished or inconsistent?

True Vvardenfell - Dagoths Domain is a landscape overhaul for Morrowind's Red Mountain region, addressing the sparse vanilla terrain by adding more rocks and detail. With 45 endorsements and recent updates, it's a niche mod for players seeking a denser, more immersive volcanic landscape.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Fills in the barren Red Mountain with much-needed rocks and detail, making the volcanic region feel more like a proper hellscape.
- Actively updated (September 2025), so it's likely compatible with current Morrowind setups.
- Small but dedicated following (45 endorsements) suggests it does its job well for those who want a denser Vvardenfell.
⚠️ Cons
- Only 45 endorsements — this is a niche overhaul that hasn't caught on with the wider modding community yet.
- Description is cut off, so there's no clear info on installation steps or whether it conflicts with other Red Mountain overhauls.
- May require a fresh save or careful load order placement to avoid terrain clipping with other landscape mods.
For Morrowind veterans who've explored Red Mountain a hundred times and want it to feel less empty. If you're a lore purist who thinks the volcanic region should be a desolate wasteland, this might not be for you. Skip if you're looking for quests or new enemies — this is purely a visual terrain upgrade.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since this is a landscape mod, place it early in your load order to let other mods overwrite if needed.
- Use a mod manager like Wrye Mash or Mod Organizer 2 to keep track of file conflicts, especially if you run other terrain mods.
- Back up your save before installing, as terrain changes can occasionally cause issues with existing characters.
