📋 About This Mod
This mod adds vertical and horizontal lag as well as horizontal (yaw) steering to the third person camera to emulate the character behavior of dark souls, where it follows more loosely behind the player, and allows the player to attack independently of the camera direction. This mod also modifies the lock-on behavior of Max Yari's Dynamic Camera and Dynamic Reticle to feel closer to dark souls.
This is my first scripting mod. It's janky and not super well written. Let me know if the game crashes or if the mod is incompatible with any others.
THIS MOD REQUIRES Max Yari's Dynamic Reticle and Dynamic Camera
This mod is compatible with the current version and a few previous versions of OpenMW as far as I can tell
Installation instructions
1. Install Dynamic Reticle and Dynamic Camera in any order
2. Drop the "scripts" file into your data files folder. The mod should only overwrite two files. Back up your scripts folder if it wants to overwrite more.
3. Make sure "Data Directories" in the launcher has your Morrowind\Data Files directory added. I think this might already be a default anyway though
4. In game, in settings -> scripts, under OpenMW camera, enable "View Over Shoulder" and "Move 360" - THIS IS REQUIRED
Please report any bugs that affect the playability of the game
Personally, I play with controller, and on the following fork: OpenMW Fork - openmw.org
To uninstall, reinstall Dynamic Reticle and Dynamic Camera, and delete Data Files\scripts\omw\camera
This OpenMW mod adds lag and steering to the third-person camera, emulating the camera behavior of Dark Souls. It's a niche UI tweak for Morrowind players who want a more weighty, souls-like feel. With 14 endorsements and 430 downloads, it's a small but dedicated mod.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Tiny but dedicated following (14 endorsements) — clearly works for some players.
- Fills a specific niche: Morrowind players who want souls-like camera feel.
- Simple concept, likely easy to install and test.
⚠️ Cons
- Very low endorsement count (14) — might be rough around the edges.
- Last updated March 2026 — could be outdated if OpenMW updates break it.
For Morrowind players using OpenMW who want a more deliberate, weighty camera like in Dark Souls. If you're tired of the floaty default camera and want more immersion, this is worth a try. Skip if you prefer snappy, responsive camera controls.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you're using OpenMW, not the original Morrowind engine — this mod won't work otherwise.
- Test the camera in third-person view after installing; you may need to adjust sensitivity settings in-game to your liking.
- If the camera feels too laggy, check if the mod has config options or try combining with other camera tweaks.
