📋 About This Mod
Smooth Talker - Enhanced Persuasion System
A comprehensive overhaul of Morrowind's persuasion mechanics, with the goal of making persuasion less tedious and leveling the speechcraft skill more useful. No more spamming Admire button to eventually get good RNG - persuasion is now more impactful and with consequences: deplete their patience and NPCs will no longer want to talk to you.
Features
Patience system
The new persuasion system is balanced around patience - a brand new NPC parameter that tells how much more of your talking are they willing to take. Once it's depleted, NPCs will no longer listen to your attempts to win them over. All your persuasion actions slowly deplete their patience, so mark your words!
All characters will have some amount of patience once you first meet them, and recover it after some in-game time has passed, allowing you to try persuasion again. The amount they have is based on their initial disposition, your speechcraft, personality and reputation. They're also more willing to hear you out if you're in the same faction.
How fast patience depletes is based on several factors. Some actions have bigger impact than others - NPC won't get tired of you as quickly if you're trying to flatter him rather than taunt him - and succeeding depletes it much slower than failure. Getting higher levels of speechcraft might mitigate the effect of failing somewhat.
Read the room
With low enough speechcraft skill you can no longer see NPCs disposition (or other stats for that matter). Learn to read people or risk persuading them blindly.
Brand new UI
The new persuasion system has been given a fresh UI to work with. Instead of the old list of actions, now you can open a new window, showing all NPCs statuses, your available actions and their chances. Not all of this will be available from the start, however. More and more information will show in this menu as you level up.
This includes two QoL improvements - your persuasion window does not close after each action, and the new UI is integrated with Right Click Menu Exit by Merlord, if you have it (you should)
Decay system
A lot of your actions won't actually make you friends with people you're talking to. You might make a good impression and be more convincing, but that won't hold for long, as their disposition towards you will eventually return back to normal. If you're skilled enough at speechcraft, however, you might be able to bond with NPCs, increasing their disposition to you permanently. Become skilled enough, and even your standard actions might leave a permanent mark.
Decay system is carefully implemented to avoid vanilla fortify math issue - if you hit the cap, you can still attempt to increase the permanent disposition, causing it to not drop as much as it otherwise wo
SmoothTalker overhauls Morrowind's persuasion system to reduce tedium and make Speechcraft more useful, replacing RNG-based Admire spamming with a more strategic approach. A niche mod with 31 endorsements, last updated December 2025.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Directly addresses a common complaint: the tedious Admire spam
- Makes Speechcraft a more viable skill for players who want to talk their way out of trouble
- Recent update (December 2025) suggests active maintenance
⚠️ Cons
- Small userbase (31 endorsements) means limited community feedback and testing
- Potential compatibility issues with other mods that alter persuasion or dialogue mechanics
For Morrowind players who find the vanilla persuasion system tedious and want a more engaging way to use Speechcraft. Perfect for roleplayers who prefer diplomatic solutions over combat.
