📋 About This Mod
WHAT DOES THIS MOD DO?
Changes the speed of most heavy weapons in the game, to confer a sense of heft. Range has been adjusted (generally upward) for each weapon. A new quick attack has been added so that the player has strategic choices during combat. NPCs will use these new attacks as well, making them more dangerous.
COMPATIBILITY
Adjusts the stats of heavy weapons, mostly two-handed, 91 weapons in total. Needs Tribunal and Bloodmoon to work. Needs to be ahead of the load order of anything else that adjusts stats of claymores, battleaxes, warhammers, and the heaviest 1-handed weapons like the daedric war axe, katana, etc..
1. 65 version:
This update adds a quick, slashing attack to these weapons, so that the player has some strategic choices during combat. The OG damage for chop was still used, and this now represents the power attack: requiring full windup for full damage. This idea is derived from the vanilla Orcish Battleaxe. Why would you want to use a quick attack? You could maximize your enchantments on-strike, or you could use a quick strike when a foe has low health, or you could be conserving stamina. Generally this quick attack is slash, which engages when you move left/right while attacking. This is pretty natural for quick strike combat. The chop and thrust are generally power attacks.
Range was readjusted, generally blades were given more reach to be realistic. The Orcish Battleaxe is a light weapon at 15 units, so the speed was readjusted, as well as giving it a more powerful maximus slash damage.
1. 55 version:
This update adds more reach to 2H long blades, especially the Daedric Dai-Katana, adjusts the speed upward for the 1H daedric katana, and adds some weapons that missed the cut last time: warhammers, battle axes, Goldbrand, and Eltonbrand.
The previous speed nerf to the Daedric Katana was too harsh, this update aims to have a more realistic "hefty" feel to this awesome blade. Additionally, the Daedric Dai-Katana has more reach to compensate for it's great heft, as well as claymores receiving a bit more reach.
This mod aims to add heft to the "heaviest" weapons, so it generally does not affect most one handed weapons, unless they are egregiously heavy. Spears, staves, and short blades were also left alone.
Notes: since NPC damage is not based on the length of drawback like the player, you will notice visually a slower swing speed by NPCs. However, this is misleading, as their damage is random and not based on drawback like the player. Knockdown is based on max damage, but since max damage and weight are generally corelated, most "heavy" weapons will have a high knockdown chance, granting them a huge combat advantage.
1. 45 version:
This update adds reach to these weapons, and consolidates the older mods into one mod. Short blades, spears, staves, and many one handed weapons are not affected by t
Slower Swing Speed is a Morrowind combat overhaul that reduces swing speed for the heaviest axes, longblades, and warhammers, adding heft and a quick attack to each. It aims to introduce strategic choices to combat. With 17 endorsements and 402 downloads, it's a niche mod for players seeking more deliberate melee gameplay.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Adds meaningful weight to heavy weapons—combat feels more deliberate
- Quick attack mechanic gives you options beyond just timing swings
- Small but active community (17 endorsements, 402 downloads) suggests it works for those who try it
⚠️ Cons
- Only affects three weapon types—if you favor other weapons, this mod won't change your game
- Last updated in December 2022—may not be compatible with newer Morrowind mod setups or patches
For Morrowind players who want melee combat to feel more weighty and tactical, especially those who favor heavy axes, longblades, and warhammers. If you're a purist who likes vanilla combat speed, skip this—it's a niche tweak, not a full overhaul.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a simple mod, just drop the files into your Data Files folder and activate it in the Morrowind launcher.
- If you use a mod manager like Wrye Mash or Mod Organizer 2, install it through that to keep your load order clean.
- Test with a new character or a save before you're in the middle of combat—you'll feel the swing speed change immediately.
