📋 About This Mod
Please note that this is my first mod, so if you see anything I've done wrong, or think the mod is imbalanced, let me know! I'll never improve without feedback. =)
The other day, I picked up Morrowind during the Steam Summer sale, excited to finally try what most people called the best Elder Scrolls game in the series. I decided to create a spear-specialized character, as that wasn't really an option in later games.
To my surprise, however, when I picked up a Halberd for the first time, I saw that for whatever reason, they were incapable of dealing Slashing and chopping damage! What good is sticking an axe on the end of your spear if you can't use it? So I looked into Modding Morrowind, and got to work.
This mod changes the stats of the Iron, Steel, Dwarven and Glass Halberds, completely reworking their damages. In the case of the Iron and Glass Halberds, which are now called Bardiches, I reduced their thrust damage while increasing slash and chop damage. In the case of the Steel and Dwarven Halberds, Minimum damage has been reduced in favour of increased Chopping and Slashing damage. Enchanted variants have also been changed.
Installation is simple, and is no different from any other Morrowind mod. Just drag SensibleHalberds. ESP into your "Data Files" folder in the directory where you installed Morrowind.
Sensible Halberds is a compact weapon overhaul for Skyrim that changes halberds to deal slashing and chopping damage instead of their default damage type. With 64 endorsements and over 1,000 downloads, it's a niche but appreciated tweak for players who want more realistic weapon behavior. Last updated in 2015, it remains a simple, no-frills modification.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved (64 endorsements) and downloaded over 1,000 times.
- Does exactly what it says: makes halberds deal slashing and chopping damage.
- No complex dependencies or scripts—just a straightforward tweak.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2015—may be incompatible with the latest Skyrim version or DLC.
- Limited scope: only affects halberds, so if you're not a halberd user, this mod is useless.
For Skyrim players who use halberds and want more realistic damage types. If you're a roleplayer or a combat purist who cares about weapon physics, this mod is a nice touch. Skip if you don't use halberds or want more extensive weapon overhauls.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since this mod only changes damage types, it should be safe to install mid-playthrough, but always make a save before adding any mod.
- If you use other weapon overhaul mods, load this one after them to ensure its changes take priority.
- Check if your game version is compatible—this mod is from 2015, so it may need tweaking for Special Edition.
