📋 About This Mod
This mod changes the Morrowind.ini weather settings to be more immersive and realistic, while staying as close as possible to the game's original aesthetic. Contrast between sunlight and shadows has been increased, stormy weather is more intense, and nights are much darker.
-
[]Display brightness, contrast, and gamma settings may need to be adjusted for optimal appearance.
[
]Not recommended for OpenMW versions 0. 48 and above due to shader issues.[]For vanilla Morrowind, fog depth and underwater fog values should be left unchanged.
[]Screenshots may differ from in-game appearance.
REQUIREMENTS
This mod includes settings for the Bloodmoon expansion. If Bloodmoon is not installed, these settings can be ignored or deleted as necessary.
1. (Optional) Make a backup of your current Morrowind.ini file located in the root Morrowind directory, which is normally "C:/Program Files/Morrowind".
2. a) Vanilla:
If you have not made any changes to the original Morrowind.ini file (and you are not using mods), just save or copy this version to the root Morrowind directory and overwrite the existing file.
Copy and paste all weather related settings from this version of the Morrowind.ini file (see CHANGES below) to the original one. If Bloodmoon is installed, the additional settings are located near the end of the file.
3. (Optional) OpenMW:
After editing or replacing the Morrowind.ini file, import the new version in the Settings menu of the OpenMW launcher. For best results, change the lighting method to "legacy" in the Graphics menu.
All sunlight, ambient, fog, and sky settings have been changed for every type of weather and time of day, including sunrise and sunset durations. The underwater fog and color settings have also been changed. Open the spoiler tag below to view the sections of the Morrowind.ini file changed by this mod.

✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Tweaks weather for realism without straying from the classic Morrowind vibe.
- Simple config change—no heavy scripts or new textures to worry about.
- Recent update (Oct 2025) shows the author's still around.
⚠️ Cons
- Only 26 endorsements—this is a niche pick, not a community favorite.
- No screenshots that match in-game results, so you're flying blind on the look.
- Changing Morrowind.ini can affect other mods that rely on weather settings—watch for conflicts.
For Morrowind veterans who want a subtle weather overhaul that keeps the original feel. Perfect if you're tired of vanilla skies but don't want a full visual mod. Skip if you're after dramatic weather effects or need compatibility with heavy weather mods.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Back up your Morrowind.ini before applying the changes—it's a one-way street if you mess up.
- If you use other weather mods, load Real Weather last to avoid overwriting its settings.
- Check the in-game weather after installing; the screenshots might not match what you see.
