📋 About This Mod
Adds a keychain item that automatically stores all keys added to the player's inventory, and uses them when appropriate. Pluginless and exclusive to OpenMW.
This standalone, pluginless mod for OpenMW adds a keychain item to the player's inventory. The keychain item takes all keys in the player's inventory and stores them in a separate container, which is accessible by simply "using" the keychain item (as if it were an alchemy apparatus or soul gem).
While the mod is installed, the player should only need to manually retrieve keys from the keychain if a quest checks for the key's presence in the player inventory. Normal use on locked doors/containers and traps works without retrieving the keys, as does using keys in dialogue (e.g. unlocking slave bracers).
Requirements
OpenMW v0. 51 or higher.
Installation
-
[]Extract the contents of the mod ZIP archive into a new folder[/]
[]In openmw.cfg or the OpenMW launcher:
- Add the full path to the folder from step 1 as a data path
- Add keychain.omwscripts as a content file[/]
[](Advanced) If you're using mods that add keys with non-standard identifiers (i.e. records that don't start with key_, end with key, or include _key anywhere in the ID), open the keys.yaml file included in the mod folder and read the instructions for adding your own custom criteria in a new file named user_keys.yaml. There is a pre-built user_keys.yaml available for download on the files page for users playing with Tamriel Rebuilt.[/]
Uninstall
-
[]Open your keychain container and select the "take all" option.[/]
[]With your inventory still open, take your "Keychain" item and drop it on the ground.[/]
[]Close your inventory, save the game, and exit.[/]
[]Remove the mod folder from the data path in openmw.cfg or the OpenMW launcher[/]
[]If manually editing openmw.cfg rather than using the launcher, make sure to also remove the keychain.omwscripts content line. If using the launcher, removing the data path in step 4 will do this for you automatically.[/]
After performing these steps, when you launch the game again, you'll still see the keychain item on the ground, but if you pick it up, it'll have a missing texture. The keychain item serves no function without the mod, so feel free to chuck it.
