📋 About This Mod
Glowing Ghosts
Description
Adds glow maps to Ancestor Ghosts and Dwarven Spectres. Glow maps are based on Intelligent Textures (so upscaled vanilla) and thus match vanilla and those replacers that align exactly with it. Meshes are based on the fixed versions from Creature VFX Restoration. The mod works best in tandem with a mod that makes locations darker.
Future plans
-
[]A version for BB Dwarven Spectre
[
]Glowing runes variant for Dwarven Spectres[]Incorporating other improved meshes if any arise (an unfortunate side effect of the mod is that with things clearer the flaws of the models are also clearer).
-
[]Bethesda for base assets
[]rot for the mesh edits from Creature VFX Restoration
[]Flash3113 for the upscaled textures from Intelligent Textures
- Xinntao for ESRGAN used to create IT. Alsa, BlackScout, BlueAmulet, buildist, Kingdomakrillic, loinne, Twittman, and ZaphodBreeblebox for the models used during creation of IT.
-
[]Bethesda for base assets
Glowing Ghosts is a small visual enhancement mod for Skyrim that adds glow maps to Ancestor Ghosts and Dwarven Spectres, making them more visible in dark dungeons. With 94 endorsements and last updated in 2020, it's a niche cosmetic tweak for players who want these ethereal enemies to stand out.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Makes ghostly enemies easier to spot in dark dungeons—no more squinting at the screen.
- Lightweight mod that doesn't touch gameplay, so it's safe to add to any load order.
- Community-tested with 94 endorsements and 1,430 downloads, so it's got a small but solid following.
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2020—might not be compatible with the latest Skyrim version or other mods that alter these creatures.
- Only affects two enemy types, so it's a very narrow visual tweak.
- No screenshots or detailed install instructions provided by the author, so you're flying blind on what to expect.
For Skyrim players who want a subtle visual upgrade to make ghostly enemies pop in dark dungeons. If you're into immersion and hate missing spectral foes, this is a quick add. Skip if you want major overhauls or if you're on a newer Skyrim version and worry about compatibility.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since this mod adds glow maps, make sure you have the latest version of Skyrim's texture mods installed to avoid conflicts.
- If you're using a mod manager like Vortex or MO2, just download and install—no need to manually place files.
- Test in a dungeon with Ancestor Ghosts (like in the Midden) to see the effect before committing to a full playthrough.
