📋 About This Mod
Procedural Chatter - Dynamic NPC Framework for OpenMW 0. 50/0. 51+
BUG NOTES:
There are currently several bugs with follower interactions, to the degree that if you're using any followers other than Julan or Arvesa (with the mod adding banter for them), they will be fully broken. Unfortunately I am working on my dissertation and do not have time for Morrowind modding for a few weeks. Once that's wrapped up I will attend to all the bugs and do an optimization pass for various things. I appreciate your patience and apologies for the issues.
This project exists primarily as a framework. The goal is to provide other modders with a system that can handle a variety of dynamic NPC behavior and manage complex states (aligning travelling with conversations, sitting, sleeping, eating and letting it all work through fast travel and wait events). Right now it is primarily focused on conversations. All dialogue has a complex condition system in modular json format. Dialogue must be written out in advance and then is selected live in game based on what conditions are met. If audio files are available it will load them automatically from dialogue IDs combined with race and gender.

Main Features and Current Stability
All of the features have various settings with toggles. By default, only NPC-to-NPC conversations are enabled. In its current state, the NPC conversation system is fairly stable and robust. State management for just conversations is rather simple compared to having everything running at once. While conversations may occasionally conflict with other scripting, they should overall be stable.
Sleeping, sitting, and scheduling are currently considered Beta/Experimental features and are disabled by default. Sleeping and sitting still have many issues that fall through the cracks (based on the bug reports for SitDownPlease), and I would not endorse their usage in a save you really care about. Out of everything, the scheduling system is the most tenuous. I will happily take bug reports for the conversations (companion or normal) and activities. I would prefer to hold off on bug reports for the other features, there's still so much for me to test myself. Moving NPCs between cells, teleporting them, and disabling them leaves open a million places for an issue to arise. While it is stable enough to go through nice 24-hour loops in a town, the fact that it moves people around means I cannot guarantee a Quest NPC or vendor you really like might not one day be stuck in limbo. Please test these more Beta features somewhere you feel comfortable reloading if things go wrong. If you're testing it with everything turned on I'm sure you'll notice large lag spikes after waiting and when huge numbers of events occur. They're usually infrequent single
Dynamic NPC Framework adds procedural chatter, schedules, sitting, sleeping, and companion banter to NPCs, with support for branching flowchart-based text or audio conversations and animations. A niche gameplay mod with 49 endorsements and 1,151 downloads, last updated June 2026.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Fresh take on NPC immersion—brings life to towns with chatter and daily routines.
- Branching flowchart conversations mean modders can craft complex dialogue trees.
- Active development (updated June 2026) shows the author is still iterating.
⚠️ Cons
- Low adoption (49 endorsements) suggests it's still rough around the edges or niche.
- Potential compatibility issues with other NPC overhaul mods—no patches mentioned.
For modders and players who want deeper NPC immersion and are willing to tinker. If you're after a plug-and-play experience, this might not be ready yet. Skip if you prefer lightweight tweaks over framework-level changes.
