📋 About This Mod

Requirements:

OpenMW 0. 49 or newer

Installation:

Devilish Sheathe Your Weapon.omwscripts

Devilish_Sheath your weapon.esp

Information:

This is my take on Djangos' "Sheathe your weapon" mod. This mod will work for all Npcs of all races and all genders. It can't cause compatibility issues. I only used the voice lines from Djangos' mod so our mods do different things and are in fact complementary.

Supported mods:

- Sneak! by MaxYari (SneakisGoodNow mod)

- OpenMW Dynamic Actors

Function:

Npcs will draw their weapon if the player has their weapon drawn and is nearby. They'll also say something appropriate for this situation. Guards will arrest you if they warned you three times with a drawn weapon. Watch the video showcase for more information.

Troubleshooting

Hey DetailDevil, somehow a Npc got stuck in the fighting stance -> fix this with the command aiwander 0,0,0,0,0

Credit:

-Von Djangos for his guard voicelines and the idea.

-skrow42 for helping me with the LOS implementation

-pwn optimized my script a lot

-taitechnic gave me a nice way to check for non-standard animations attached to Npcs and even made his mod OpenMW Dynamic Actors compatible with this mod.

-Foxunder improved the script to avoid unintended behavior when you unsheathe the weapon during combat

- borok for scripting and dialogue improvements

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

This OpenMW mod makes NPCs react to drawn weapons by commenting and drawing their own, adding immersion to combat encounters. With 82 endorsements and recent updates, it's a lightweight addition for players seeking more reactive world interactions.

✨ Key Features

NPCs comment when you approach with a drawn weapon
NPCs draw their own weapons in response
Compatible with OpenMW engine

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Tiny download and easy to install
  • Adds a layer of realism for stealth and combat players
  • Recently updated (August 2026) so likely works with current OpenMW builds

⚠️ Cons

  • Only 82 endorsements – not a widely tested mod
  • May conflict with other mods that alter NPC AI or dialogue
🎯 Is This For You?
For Morrowind players using OpenMW who want NPCs to react more realistically to aggressive behavior. Great for roleplayers and stealth characters who like to intimidate. Skip if you prefer vanilla NPC behavior or use heavy AI overhauls.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 1 minute

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you're using OpenMW, not the original Morrowind engine – this mod is built for OpenMW.
  • If you use other mods that change NPC AI, test this one early to avoid conflicts.
  • Check the mod's forum or comments for any reported issues before adding to a long playthrough.
