📋 About This Mod

Reduces spellcasting costs based on your associated skill level in it. More than a few mods have done this in the past, but the way they worked have two limitations. The first is that casting costs weren't reflected in the UI (because the cast reduction was being faked). The second is because said reductions were faked, you required the original amount of magicka to cast the spell.

This version of Casting Reduce does away with both those limitations. As the player's skill in something is leveled up (or fortified), the changes will be both reflected in the UI and the player's magicka cast costs. This gives mages a lot more utility.

-Reduces casting costs of a spell based on your skill in it. Spells with multiple effects will look at your least proficient school for the reduction.

-By default, one point in a skill equals 0. 5% casting reduction. At 100 alteration for example, all alteration spells will cost 50% less.

-MCM support to change the cast reduction amount.

INSTALLATION

-This requires the latest build of MWSE-Lua. Make sure you have it, or I'll tell Todd.

-Special thanks to NullCascade for helping with the UI code.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Simple and effective: makes your skill level actually matter for casting costs.
  • Works with every spell, so no compatibility headaches with other magic mods.
  • UI feedback means you always know what you'll pay before you cast.

⚠️ Cons

  • Only 70 endorsements — a niche mod that hasn't seen huge community traction.
  • Last updated in May 2023 — may not be tested with the latest Morrowind patches or MWSE updates.
  • No detailed documentation or configuration options mentioned — you get what you see.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Morrowind mages who feel spell costs are too punishing early on and want a skill-based discount. Also great for roleplayers who want their character's expertise to shine. Skip if you prefer vanilla balance or want more complex magic overhauls.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure you have MWSE-Lua installed and updated, as this mod relies on it.
  • Check the in-game UI after installing to see the adjusted costs — if they don't change, verify the mod is active in your mod manager.
  • Since it's a Lua mod, load order matters less, but keep it enabled in your mod list.
