📋 About This Mod
a set of normalmaps based on flash's intelligent textures. textures were handpainted before being used to generate normalmaps, then resized and compressed to minimize disk and VRAM usage.
this mod is compatible with vanilla textures, but the Intelligent Textures mod is recommended.
this mod is technically compatible with vanilla morrowind, but doesn't include any meshes, and without them it has no effect in vanilla. the mod is plug and play for OpenMW.
this release includes the full set and 2 shields, but let me know if i missed anything.
make sure you have normalmaps enabled in settings.cfg
auto use object normal maps = true
auto use terrain normal maps = true
recommended to use with Subtle Magic Glow https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/4468
recommended to use with Improved Shield Meshes https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/47931
can be use with Vanilla Style Armor Remodelling https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/48757 if you install only the meshes folder, and
a_bonemold_cuirass_c.nif, A_Bonemold_cuirass_GND.nif, and a_bonemold_gah_julan_h.nif are manually removed
if you enjoy the mod please leave screenshots, as i would rather work on more mods than take screenshots of my own.
please report any issues in the bug tracker. if this release goes well i will probably release bear armor normalmaps next.
A compact texture mod that adds normalmaps to the vanilla bonemold armor set, shield, and tower shield in Morrowind, enhancing visual depth. With 33 endorsements and 568 downloads, it's a niche choice for OpenMW players seeking improved armor textures without altering the original look.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Enhances the vanilla bonemold armor with subtle depth, making it look better without straying from the original design.
- Simple drop-in install—just place the files and you're good to go.
- Small but dedicated following (33 endorsements) and decent download count (568) for a niche texture mod.
⚠️ Cons
- Only covers bonemold armor and shields—if you want normalmaps for other armor sets, this mod won't help.
- Last updated in 2020, so it might not be tested with the latest OpenMW versions, though texture mods usually age well.
- No screenshots or detailed install instructions in the description, so you're flying blind until you try it.
For Morrowind players using OpenMW who want to give the iconic bonemold armor a bit more visual punch without overhauling the game's look. Skip if you're on the original Morrowind engine or if you prefer complete texture overhauls—this is a focused, minimal addition.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Make sure you're running OpenMW, not the original Morrowind engine, as this mod is specifically for OpenMW's rendering.
- Place the mod's files into your OpenMW data directory, or use a mod manager like Mod Organizer 2 to keep your setup tidy.
- If you're using other texture mods, load this one after them to ensure the normalmaps apply correctly.
